Men's Tennis Set for ACC Championship

Cards will face Boston College in the first round on Wednesday
The University of Louisville men's tennis team will open the ACC Men's Tennis Championship with a first-round matchup against Boston College on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C.
The winner of the match between the 12th-seeded Cardinals and the 13th-seeded Eagles will go on to face fifth-seed Georgia Tech in the second round on Thursday at 4 p.m.
We are focused in playing our best tennis in the post-season," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "These guys know the scouting report and it will just be a matter of execution. We want to make the most out of this opportunity."
About the ACC Championship
Nine-time defending champion Virginia holds the top seed for the 2016 Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Tennis Championship, which begins on Wednesday, April 20 at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, North Carolina.
Action in the 2016 ACC Men's Tennis Championship will continue with a pair of 2 p.m. semifinal matches on Saturday and will conclude with Sunday's 2 p.m. championship match.
The Saturday semifinal match featuring the highest seeded team and Sunday's championship match will be streamed live by ESPN3. Former United States Davis Cup team captain Patrick McEnroe will serve as the lead announcer. McEnroe will be joined by Paul Torricelli on second chair. Brian Clark will also be on hand as the sideline reporters for the men's matches.
About Louisville: Louisville enters the ACC Championship with a 14-16 overall record after posting a 1-11 mark in ACC play.
• The Cardinals are coming off of a 6-1 loss to No. 7 Wake Forest at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center in their regular season finale on Sunday. Senior Jeffrey Brown picked up a singles win for Louisville with a 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 decision against Jon Ho.
• Freshman Brandon Lancaster leads the team with a 23-13 overall record in singles - he is 10-10 in dual matches playing mostly at No. 4. Senior Alex Gornet carries a 21-21 overall record with seven victories at No. 1. Fellow senior Jeffrey Brown leads the team with 13 dual match wins playing mostly at Nos. 3 and 4 and has won eight of his last 10 matches.
• The doubles team of junior Sean Donohue and sophomore Courtney Lock carry a 16-6 overall record and a 13-3 mark at Louisville's No. 3 team and have won eight of their last 10 completed matches.
• Head coach Rex Ecarma is in his 26th season at UofL and has a 422-281 overall record.
Senior Salute
Seniors Jeffrey Brown and Alex Gornet, have been an integral part of Louisville's success throughout their careers. Each have made significant contributions in both singles and doubles, helping the Cards to 73 wins as a class, two NCAA Regional appearances and a top 25 ranking reaching as high as No. 23 in the nation in 2015. They helped pave the way as Cardinals moved to the ACC, posting a 7-5 league record including an upset of No. 10 North Carolina at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center in their inaugural ACC
season.
• Gornet and Brown have competed as a doubles team the past two seasons and have appeared in the national rankings nine times reaching as high as No. 35. The pair has compiled 28 wins including 22 as Louisville's No. 1 team.
• Gornet has been ranked as high as No. 123 in singles (2015) and stands tenth on Louisville's list for all-time singles wins.
• Brown needs one more doubles victory to move into Louisville's top 10 list for doubles wins with 86.
Cards in the ACC Championship
This marks Louisville's second season in the ACC. In 2015, their inaugural season, the Cards earned a No. 6 seed and fell 4-3 to 11th-seeded Clemson in the first round. In that match, seniors Sebastian Stiefelmeyer, Albert Wagner and Van Damrongsri picked up singles wins for the Cardinals. The Tigers took the doubles point and got singles wins from Alejandro Auguso, Luke Johnson and Hampton Drake.
