Cards overcome 2-0 deficit with 12 unanswered runs
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Sophomore Nicole Pufahl had three RBIs to help lead the University of Louisville softball team to a 12-2 win over Indiana on Tuesday evening at IU's Andy Mohr Field.

Louisville (27-9) fell behind 2-0 in the first inning, but outhit Indiana 11-3 while scoring 12 unanswered runs.

The Hoosiers (22-17) jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Rebecca Blitz reached on an error and Erin Lehman singled. A fly out by CaraMia Tsirigos sent Blitz to third and Lehman stole second to set up Michelle Huber's two-run double.

The Cards answered with three runs in the top of the second. Walks to sophomore Pufahl, senior Brittany Sims and sophomore Sidney Melton loaded the bases for junior Jordan McNary who sent a two-out, double to centerfield to even the score. Junior Maryssa Becker drew a walk to load the bases for sophomore Megan Hensley who also earned a walk to bring Melton home and put Louisville on top 3-2.

Indiana had a chance to push more runs across in the bottom of the third when Katelyn Conenna and Kassi Farmer walked to put two runners with two outs. Becker entered to pitch in relief of Hensley and issued a walk to Taylor Uden to load the bases, but delivered a strikeout to Rachel O'Malley to hold the Hoosiers at bay.

Louisville used five hits, an error, a walk and a hit batter to break open the game with a five-spot in the fourth. Melton reached on an error and stole second. An infield single by McNary put runners on the corners for Becker's RBI hit. A walk to Hensley loaded the bases for senior Hailey Smith who singled to bring home McNary and load the bases. Sophomore Nicole Pufahl was hit by a pitch to plate Becker. After an IU pitching change, Sims delivered a two-run single to increase the lead to 8-2.

The Cards tacked on four more runs in the fifth. Junior Morgan Meyer got the frame started with a hit and stole second. Becker doubled to bring Meyer home and was lifted for pinch runner Jessica Adell who scored on a single by Hensley. A two-base error on Smith's fielder's choice sent pinch-runner freshman Michala Riggle to third. Pufahl followed with a two-run single to make the score 12-2.

Becker (15-6) did not allow a run or a hit while striking out four in 2.2 innings of relief en route to her career-best 15th win of the season. She also helped the Cards at the plate going 2 for 3 with double, two RBIs and one run. McNary went 2 for 4 with a double, a stolen base and two RBIs. Sims was 2 for 3 with a run and an RBI. Hensley went 1 for 1 with two RBIs and was walked three times in the game.

Tara Trainer(11-11) took the loss after giving up three earned runs on one hit and striking out two in 1.2 innings. Lehman paced the Hoosiers with a 2 for 3, one run performance at the plate.

Louisville (27-9) will return to Ulmer Stadium to begin a seven-game home stand starting with a three-game series against North Carolina Central this weekend.

• Junior Maryssa Becker registered her 15th win of the season - a career high for wins. She also moved to sixth on Louisville's career wins list with 42
