The men's 4x400m relay team sets a new school record
Gainesville, Fla. – The Louisville track and field team wrapped up the second day of competition at the Florida Relays on Friday. The men's 4x400m relay team advanced to the finals on Saturday, setting a new school record in the preliminaries. Â
"We had a few exciting performances today," said head coach Dale Cowper.  "The men's 4x400m relay team was certainly the highlight. Martice Moore gave us arguably the best leadoff leg we have ever had on the relay and then Jeron, Teague, and Antoine stayed aggressive for the final three legs."
The men's 4x400m relay team of Moore, Brown, Peck and Keys won their heat with a school record time of 3:08.74. The broke the record of 3:11.07 set last season at the Florida Relays by Carlos Coleman, Andrew Nsuk, Peck and Josh Hall. They will compete in the finals on Saturday at 5:55 p.m. They finished third overall among the five heats.
"Isaac Bowling and Caitlin Gilmore led the way in the throwing events with career best efforts in the discus and hammer, respectively," said Cowper. "It's nice to see fifth year seniors that are still putting in the work to continue improving."
Bowling won the men's discus with a new personal best throw of 53.50m/175-06. In the women's hammer, Gilmore finished fourth with a new personal best mark of 59.29m/194-06. Â
"Bre'Yana Wash was able to add to her string of consecutive competitions over 20 feet in the long jump and Javen Reeves did a nice job coming off his big personal best in Tampa two weeks ago," Cowper said. "Edwin capped the night off by making a great attempt at Wesley's school record in the 1500 meters. Both his running strength and closing speed have progressed well since last outdoor season. It should be fun to watch him open up his season in the steeplechase at the Louisville Invitational in two weeks." Â
Wash finished fourth in the women's long jump invitational with a leap of 6.25m/20-06.25. Reeves finished fifth in the high jump invitational with a mark of 2.11m/6-11.00.
Kibichiy wrapped up the first day of competition for the Cardinals in the 1500m run. He finished 15th in the competitive field with a time of 3:45.62. He was less than a tenth of a second off of Wesley Korir's school record of 3:45.57 set in 2007. Â
The Cardinals will conclude competition at the Florida Relays on Saturday. Â
