Read earns first ACC honor of the 2016 season

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville lacrosse's Brittany Read has been named Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week, league officials announced on Tuesday afternoon.

Read joins Notre Dame junior attacker Cortney Fortunato, who was named ACC Women's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week, in earning the first weekly conference honors of the lacrosse season.
Making her first career start in goal for the Cardinals, the sophomore totaled a career-high 12 saves to help No. 14/16 Louisville to a 14-6 season opening victory over Marquette. The Gibbsboro, N.J., native played all 60 minutes and posted a team-high five ground balls and added two caused turnovers in the victory.

The Cardinals will play their first road games of the season this weekend as they travel north to face Temple on Friday before wrapping up the weekend with a matchup at Duquesne on Sunday. Louisville will return home to face Denver on Feb. 20 at 1 p.m. at the UofL Lacrosse Stadium.
