
Lacrosse Announces Team Captains for 2016 Season

Cortnee Daley, Stephanie McNamara, Heidi Smith and Emily Howell named team captains
With the team's season set to begin on Feb. 6, the Louisville women's lacrosse squad has its captains for the season in place. Head coach Kellie Young announced today that senior Cortnee Daley, juniors Stephanie McNamara and Heidi Smith along with sophomore Emily Howell will serve as Louisville's 2016 team captains.
"I am very proud to announce Cortnee Daley, Steph McNamara, Heidi Smith and Emily Howell as our 2016 captains," said Young. Â "Each of them has played a huge role in the growth of our program and the re-establishment of our culture this fall. Â They each bring something different to the table and I look forward to the leadership they'll provide both on and off the field this spring."
Daley will serve as captain for the second straight year. She started every game as a junior and was second on the team in goals scored with 47. McNamara anchored the Cardinal defense last year, starting in all 18 games. She ranked second on the team in caused turnovers with 14.Â
Smith also started all 18 games for the Cardinals last season. She was second on the team in draw controls with 25. She also finished the year with seven goals and four assists for 11 points.  Howell earned a starting position in her freshman year. She finished her rookie season with 22 ground balls and 12 draw controls. Â
The Cardinals will begin the 2016 season on Feb. 6 as they host Marquette at the UofL Lacrosse Stadium at 2:00 p.m.
