Louisville women finish eighth and the men finish ninth at the ACC Indoor Championships
ROXBURY CROSSING, Mass. – The University of Louisville track and field teams concluded the 2016 ACC Indoor Championships with two event titles and a school record.
The Syracuse men were crowned champions with 88 points while Miami won the women's title with 85 total points, edging Clemson by two points.
The Cardinal women finished eighth and the men finished ninth, both teams accumulating 38.50 points. Over the weekend, the Cardinals had 12 athletes receive all-ACC honors and Damar Robinson was named the ACC Indoor Track & Field Most Valuable Field Performer after finishing first in the high jump and third in the triple jump.
"We had some extreme highs and lows today," said head coach Dale Cowper. "Ben and Emmonnie were clutch performers to pick up our third and fourth titles of the weekend. Both improved their national standings and I'm excited to see what they can do at the NCAA Finals in a couple of weeks."
Junior Emmonnie Henderson kicked off the final day of competition inside the Reggie Lewis Center with an indoor personal best throw of 16.92m/ 55-6.25 in the shot put to become the third Cardinal to win an event title in the meet. Along with two outdoor event wins from last season, Henderson now has collected three ACC Championships in one indoor and outdoor season.
In the triple jump, senior Ben Williams was victorious recording a season best leap of 16.38m/53-9 to become the fourth Cardinal to be crowned a champion this indoor season. Williams' mark is currently ranked sixth in the nation. Teammate Damar Robinson finished third with a mark of 15.38m/50-5.5 while Devin Valentine finished eighth with a personal best mark of 14.96m/49-1.
"It was a good win," said Ben Williams. "I have a friend going through a rough time, so I dedicated this win to them, no doubt it's a great feeling when you put your mind to it and you want to come out on top."
Senior Benadate Cheruiyot set a new school record in the 3000m with a time of 9:37.32. She broke current head coach Taryn Sheehan (Gibson)'s time of 9:39.04 that was set back in 2008.
