Dolly Nyemah and Damar Robison earn first team honors while Edwin Kibichiy earns second team honors
BIRMINGHAM, ALA. -- The University of Louisville track and field team wrapped up the first night of competition at the NCAA Indoor Championships with Dolly Nyemah and Damar Robinson earning first team All-America honors and Edwin Kibichiy earning second team All-America honors. Nyemah finished second in the women's weight throw while Robinson finished seventh in the high jump. Kibichiy finished the night 15th in the 5000m run.
"Today was a great day for a men's and women's programs," said head coach Dale Cowper. "Dolly was outstanding. She maintained great composure throughout the prelims and ended up hitting a two foot personal best in the finals. Dolly has come so far over the last four years and I couldn't be happier with the way she represents our program."
Nyemah improved 10 spots from her 12th place finish last season at the NCAA Indoor Championships. She threw a personal best 22.21m (72-10) in her final throw of the night for a second place finish. It is the second best indoor finish for the Cardinals in the weight throw, behind D'Ana McCarthy's two wins in 2009 and 2010.
Heading into the championship, Nyemah had recorded a previous personal best mark of 21.64m/71-0 at the ACC Championships which was ranked as sixth-best in the nation. The Indianapolis, Ind., native has won the event three times this season while also posting four runner-up finishes in the event.
"On the men's side I was really pleased with the way Edwin competed," said Cowper. "He went out hard in the 5K and really gave the best effort he could. Damar Robinson was able to step up in the high jump and pick up two big team points. He and Coach Walker have done a great job of working together throughout the indoor season."
Robinson, competing in the NCAA Championships for the first time, finished seventh in the high jump with a mark of 2.18m (7-1). He becomes the second athlete to earn All-America honors in the high jump since Tone Belt in 2010.
Robinson's best mark of the season (2.19m/7-2.25) came in a victory at the ACC Indoor Championships. He earned ACC Indoor Track & Field Most Valuable Field Performer honors after winning the high jump and a third place finish in the triple jump.
