
Five Field Hockey Players Earn All-ACC Honors

McFerran selected to first team; Gittens, McCrudden, Mink and Woods named to second team
Five University of Louisville field hockey players were among the 23 student-athletes named to the 2016 Field Hockey All-ACC Teams as announced by ACC Commissioner John Swofford on Wednesday. Ayeisha McFerran was selected to the first team while Erin McCrudden, Nicole Woods, Lizzie Gittens and Minout Mink earned second team honors. Louisville and North Carolina led the league with five selections each.

McFerran, a sophomore from Larne, Northern Ireland, is making her first appearance on the All-ACC team. The goalkeeper leads the league with six shutouts and carries a 1.18 goals against average. Her .777 save percentage stands second in the league and fourth in the nation. She was named ACC Co-Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 18. She is also a 2015 NFHCA All-American and All-West Region first team selection.

Gittens, a graduate student from Southampton, England, has started every game for the Cardinals this season. The defender stands third on the team with six goals – including three game-winners - and has 15 points. She has helped anchor a defense which has produced six shutouts and has limited opponents to 22 goals in 19 games for a 1.14 team goals against average.

McCrudden, a senior midfielder from Putnam Valley, N.Y. leads the league with 17 assists and is tied for second on the team with 21 points. The team co-captain earned ACC Co-Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 18 after scoring the game-winning goal against then-No. 3 North Carolina. McCrudden was recently selected to play in the NFHCA Senior Game. She was a 2015 All-West Region second team.

Mink, a forward from Haaksbergen, Netherlands, leads the team with 14 goals – five of them game-winners – and 31 points. She stands third in the ACC in goals and fourth in points. The freshman is currently tied for ninth on Louisville's list for goals scored in a single season.

Woods, a junior from Beverly, Mass., earns All-ACC honors for the second straight year after being named to the second team in 2015. The midfielder/forward has five goals and 10 assists and stands fourth on the team with 20 points. She earned ACC Offensive Player of the Week twice this season. The 2015 NFHCA All-West Region first team selection is as member of the USA U-21 team and was named to the 2016 Junior World Cup Roster.Â

No. 8 Louisville (15-4) posted a 3-3 record in the ACC and earned the No. 4 seed in the conference championship. The Cardinals will face fifth-seeded, and fifth-ranked North Carolina in the quarterfinals on Thursday at 11 a.m. in Winston-Salem, N.C. All ACC Championship games will be shown on ACC Network Extra and will be televised regionally (Fox Sports South in Louisville).
