
Women's Lacrosse Inks Nine Standouts

The Cardinals add another star-studded, nine-member class in 2017
LOUSIVILLE, Ky. -- University of Louisville head coach Kellie Young has managed to ink another impressive University of Louisville lacrosse signing class. On Wednesday, Young announced a star-studded, nine-member class for the 2017 season that includes three attackers and six midfielders.Â
In addition to signing four from Maryland, Young also brings in student-athletes from Virginia, New York, Â New Jersey and North Carolina.
"I could not be more excited about our 2017 Cardinals," said Young. Â "From the first player to commit thru the very last to choose Louisville, they are the most dynamic and inventive class to wear the Cardinal jersey. I cannot wait to engrain them into our structure and philosophies and see how they elevate our program."
Below is the list of the 2017 signees:
Lexi Arens, Attacker, Ellicott City, Md.
Lexi Arens lettered for the varsity lacrosse team at Mt. Hebron High School in Elliott City, Maryland all four years of her high school career. She was selected to play for the Brine National Tournament team and was the third leading scorer for her high school team her junior season with 33 points. Arens also competed on the soccer and basketball teams at Mt. Hebron and was a competitive diver during the summer months.

Madison Birch, Midfielder, Wall, N.J.
Madison Birch is a four-year letter winner for the varsity lacrosse team at Wall High School in Wall, New Jersey. As a freshman Birch broke the record for most goals by a freshman at Wall with 54, the previous record was 13. She was also the first sophomore to score 100 goals at Wall High School. She was named to the 2015 All-Shore team, the 2015 Under Armour All-American team, and the 2014 University of Maryland All-Star Team at Maximum Exposure Camp. She was held out of the 2016 season due to injury, but will play her senior season in 2017.

Caroline Blalock, Midfielder, Ellicott City, Md.
Caroline Blalock is a three-year letter winner on her varsity lacrosse team at Marriotts Ridge High School in Elliott City, Maryland. She received Under Armour Underclass All-American honors, US Lacrosse All-Academic All-American, and first team All-County honors in 2016. Caroline was also a member of the 2016 Howard County Championship team. In 2015, she was given Brine National All-American honors and named to the Maryland Crab Draw Underclass All-Star Team. Caroline was also on the basketball and field hockey teams at Marriotts Ridge. She led the field hockey team to the 2015 regional championship title and a state runner-up finish.Â

Sarah Blalock, Midfielder, Ellicott City, Md.
Sarah Blalock is a three-year letter winner on her varsity lacrosse team at Marriotts Ridge High School in Elliott City, Maryland. She was named to the US Lacrosse All-Academic All-American team in 2016. Blalock was also named second-team All-County in Howard County her junior year. She led the team to an undefeated season and the 2016 County Championship. In 2015, she was named a Brine National All-American. Sarah was also on the basketball and field hockey teams at Marriotts Ridge. She led the field hockey team to the 2015 regional championship title and a state runner-up finish. Blalock was also named second team all-county in field hockey.

Ally Hall, Midfielder, Harwood, Md.
Ally Hall is a four-year letter winner on the varsity lacrosse team at the Severn School in Harwood, Maryland. She was twice named to the all-county team and received the award for the most ground balls in a season at Severn. She also played soccer for three years at Severn.

Kayla Marshall, Attacker, Dumfries, Va.
Kayla Marshall will be a four-year letterwinner for Bishop Ireton High School. In three seasons with Bishop Ireton, Marshall has scored 59 goals and dished out 26 assists. She finished with 14 goals and three assists her junior year. As a sophomore she finished with 24 goals and 12 assists. She helped guide her team to the 2014 VISAA Virginia State Championship title and also the 2014 WCAC Championship title.Â

Alexandra McNicholas, Midfielder, Rockville Centre, N.Y.
Alex McNicholas is a four-year letter winner on the varsity lacrosse team at South Side High School in Rockville Centre, New York. She was named a Maximum Exposure All-Star in 2012 and 2013. McNicholas was also named to the Brine National Lacrosse Tournament, Long Island team in 2014 and 2015. She also made the Women's National Lacrosse Tournament Long Island Team in 2016. She was named to the all-conference team in 2016, and named the captain of the lacrosse team at South Side in 2016 and 2017. She also played soccer all four years at South Side, where she was named to the New York State Soccer team from 2011-15. She won the New York State Soccer MVP of the Agropoli Cup in 2014.

Cassandra New, Midfielder, Cary, N.C.
Cassandra New is a four-year letter winner for her varsity lacrosse team at Cardinal Gibbons High School in Cary, North Carolina. She was selected to the Powerade Lacrosse team and North Carolina National Lacrosse Team in 2015 and 2016. New led Cardinal Gibbons to the North Carolina Lacrosse State Championship in 2016, and she was named the Impact Player. She also played field hockey in high school and was named to the 2016 All-Conference and Regional teams in 2016.

Shayla Scanlan, Attacker, Angola, N.Y.
Shayla Scanlan is a five-time letter winner for her varsity lacrosse team at Lake Shore Senior High School. She was named to the Western New York First Team for lacrosse. Scanlan also netted her 200th career goal last season and will look to add to that number during her senior season. She is a member of Seneca Nation, and it is believed she is the first Seneca Nation female to sign at the D-I level in a sport.
