Women’s Cross Country Team, Kibichiy Earn Automatic Bids to the NCAA Championship

Louisville women will make their first NCAA Championship appearance while Edwin Kibichiy will make his third straight appearance
Charlottesville, Va. -- The University of Louisville women's (60-42, 18-7) cross country team finished second at the NCAA Southeast Regional to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship. The Cardinals earned their first NCAA Championship appearance on the women's side with today's runner-up finish. Senior Edwin Kibichiy finished third, leading the Louisville men's (58-34, 12-6) team to an 11th place finish. Kibichiy earned an automatic bid to advance to the NCAA Championship for the third straight year.
NC State swept the Southeast Regional, winning on both the men's and women's side.
"It was exciting to watch our women's team take another step forward after a terrific run at the ACC Championships two weeks ago," said head coach Dale Cowper. "Coming into the race it was clear that NC State was a strong favorite in the region but the next seven teams were very similar to each other. The ladies used a full team effort to earn the runner up finish and an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships next Saturday. Joe Walker and Jenna Wrieden continue to do a great job of growing these ladies confidence and we are excited to see them chase a top 25 finish next week."
Freshman Dorcas Wasike led the women with a seventh place finish. Wasike clocked a time of 20:36.0 to earn USTFCCCA All-Region honors. Junior Bailey Davis also finished with time of 21:08.5to finish 26th .
Caroline Gosser finished 39th for the Cardinals with a time of 21:34.5. Junior Mia Ross finished 42nd with a time of 21:40.1. Adair Gennocro finished 43rd with a best time of 21:47.3.
Freshman Bailey Beery clocked a time of 22:12.5 to finish 81st. Sophomore Aurilla Wilson finished with a time of 22:40.2 for a 117th place finish for the Cardinals.
"Edwin Kibichiy ran an intelligent race for the men's squad and we are excited that he was able to earn an automatic individual bid to the NCAA finals," said Cowper. "He'll be a strong contender for All-American honors next weekend."
Kibichiy finished third with a personal best 10K time of 28:54.5. He earned USTFCCCA All-Region honors for the third straight season. Senior Calvin Chemoiywo also earned USTFCCCA All-Region honors with an 8th place finish. Chemoiywo finished with a personal best time of 29:15.4. He will be considered for an at-large bid for the NCAA Championships next weekend.
Senior George Yator clocked a time of 31:07.8 to finish 71st. Senior Jonathan Reynolds finished 115th with a time of 32:00.5. Sophomore Daniel Fleace ran a personal best time of 32:10.3 to finish 124h for the Cardinals.
Freshman Julien Magallanes ran a personal best time of 32:44.3 to finish 111th. Freshman Holden Wells ran a personal best time of 35:03.9 to finish 194th.
The NCAA Championships will be held Nov. 19 in Terre Haute, Ind. at LaVern Gibson Course.
