Kibichiy sets new record with eighth place finish while the women close out historic season finishing 31st in the nation
Terre Haute, Ind. -- The University of Louisville women's (60-42, 18-7) cross country team finished 31st at the NCAA Championship while Edwin Kibichiy finished eighth, for the best individual finish in school history. Kibichiy earned All-American honors for the second time in his career.
Oregon edged out Michigan to win the women's championship while Missouri's Karissa Schweizer won the individual title. Northern Arizona won the men's championship while Villanova's Patrick Tiernan dethroned Oregon's Edward Cheserek to win the individual championship.
"Our women's squad has done a tremendous job of moving the program forward throughout the season, said head coach Dale Cowper. "Today was a solid team effort to finish 31st in the country. This group has been able to set a new standard for our women's program and we are ecstatic to return 7 of the top 8 runners to next year's team."
Freshman Dorcas Wasike led the women, finishing 145th with a time of 21:01.9. Junior Bailey Davis wrapped up a career best season finishing with a time of 21:05.6.
Senior Claire Noser wrapped up her final season with a time of 21:32.6 to finish 206th. Mia Ross finished 218th with a time of 21:47.9. Adair Gennocro clocked a time of 22:09.0 to finish 229th.
Freshman Bailey Beery finished 239th with a time of 22:29.4. Caroline Gosser finished with a time of 22:49.7 to finish 242nd.
"Edwin Kibichiy showed up in a big way today," said Cowper. "His eighth place overall finish surpasses Wesley Korir's 12th place effort from 2007 to become our program's top overall finisher. I couldn't be more excited for Edwin to finish his career in such an exciting fashion."
Kibichiy finished eighth with a time of 29:59.5. His eighth place finish passes Wesley Korir's previous top finish of 12th at the 2007 NCAA Championships, making him the top finisher in school history. Kibichiy also earns All-American honors for the second time in his career.
