Cards in action at Commodore Scramble and USTA/ITF Birmingham Futures Tournament
The University of Louisville men's tennis team will continue fall action with two tournaments this weekend.
Senior Sean Donohue, sophomore Michael Quang, and freshmen Clement Filho, Fredrik Moe and Parker Wynn will represent the Cardinals in Vanderbilt's Commodore Scramble which will take place Oct. 28-30. The tournament field includes players from Belmont, Lipscomb, Middle Tennessee, Tennessee Tech and Vanderbilt.
"This was a good tournament for us last year. Brandon Lancaster was named MVP and Quang and Santiago had their best singles wins of last season here," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "Coach Hunt and Jared Wunderley (tournament director) do a great job in running the tournament. The competition will be high quality, so we can see what this group of Cardinals are made of. Parker is coming off a great weekend at the Ohio Valley Regional and he and Sean Donohue will make an interesting doubles team to watch."
While part of the team is in Nashville, junior Santiago Salazar, junior Nicolas Rouanet, and sophomore Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff will travel to Birmingham, Ala., to compete in the USTA/ITA Futures Tournament Oct. 29-30.
"I'm excited for these guys to be able to compete in a tournament with this opportunity<" said="" uofl="" assistant="" coach="" jakob="" gustafsson.="" "a="" lot="" of="" our="" players="" have="" goals="" and="" dreams="" of="" becoming="" professional="" tennis="" players,="" so="" now="" they="" get="" to="" take="" that="" first="" step="" and="" experience="" what="" it="" takes.="" i="" believe="" we="" can="" have="" great="" results="" here="" and="" look="" forward="" to="" getting="">">
Entering the seventh weekend of the 2016-17 fall season Wynn carries a team-best 11-3 singles record after reaching the quarterfinals of last week's ITA Ohio Valley Regional and posting a runner-up finish at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships. Lancaster stands tied for second on the team with seven singles victories including a 4-0 run en route to winning the 'A' singles division at the Louisville Fall Invitational. Donohue leads the team with five doubles victories while pairing with sophomore George Hedley and Quang.
