Lauren Hartlage took fifth at the event with a 5-over-par 221.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Lauren Hartlage earned her second top-five finish of the year, while helping the University of Louisville women's golf team to a fifth-place tie on Tuesday at the Cardinal Cup in Simpsonville, Ky.
The freshman shot a 5-over-par 221 through three days of competition, posting a 2-under-par 70 in the final round. Hartlage, who tied for the best par-4 average (4.00) in the 93-player field, used four birdies to take fifth. She remained consistent during the day, recording only two bogeys, while progressively improving her tournament performance by shaving seven strokes off her first round total.
Collectively, the Cardinals – Louisville Black team – finished with a 52-over-par 916 to tie No. 33 East Carolina. The group, which capped the tournament with a 15-over-par 303, saw its streak of four-consecutive Cardinal Cup titles snapped. No. 7 Florida State won with a 12-over-par 876. The Louisville Red team placed 16th with an 86-over-par 950.
Meghan Nay, though she didn't compete on the scoring team, had one of the program's best performances. The redshirt sophomore shot a season-best 3-under-par 69 and tied for eighth. She built a stellar 4-under-par on the front nine, aided by four birdies and no bogeys. On the back nine, she earned a birdie on No. 14, statistically one of the toughest holes the field faced. Over three days, players earned a double-bogey on the hole 33 times – the most of any hole – and 107 bogeys.
Olivia Cason tied for 40th with a 17-over-par 233, and Molly Skapik tied for 45th behind an 18-over-par 234.
The tournament marks an end to the Cardinals' fall season.
Through five events, Louisville earned two top-five finishes and boasted a four-player team average of 298.57. Individually, Hartlage is pacing the group with two top-five finishes and a 73.07 stroke average.
Louisville resumes play in the winter with the annual Battle of the Bluegrass State. The event pits Louisville and Kentucky in a dual match on Jan. 31.
