
Women’s Golf in Fifth After First Round of Cardinal Cup

Olivia Cason and Shannon Gramley each capped the opening day in the top 10.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Olivia Cason and Shannon Gramley each secured top-10 finishes on Sunday, helping the University of Louisville women's golf team to fifth through the first round of play at the Cardinal Cup in Simpsonville, Ky.
Cason fired a team-leading 2-over-par 74, tying for fifth. The sophomore was even through the front nine, helped by a birdie on No. 9, but carded a 2-over through the back stretch.
Gramley, who is tied for seventh, led the 93-player field through nine holes and was on pace to set a season-best round. She used four birdies – and no bogeys – on the front nine, boasting a 4-under-par, but compiled a 7-over-par over her last nine holes and concluded the day at 3-over-par 75.
Collectively, the Cardinals' black team recorded 10 pars and posted an 18-over-par 306. Louisville, which entered the event having won the last four-consecutive Cardinal Cup titles, trails No. 7 Florida State by five strokes. The Louisville red team is tied for 16th with a 38-over-par 326.
Lauren Hartlage, tied for 18th, scored a 5-over-par 77. The freshman had three bogeys on both the front and back nines, while tallying her lone birdie on No. 17.
Jacqueline Twitty and Molly Skapik each tied for 44th, with an 8-over-par 80. Meghan Nay and Delaney Shah, who also are tied for 44th, are pacing the Cardinals' red team.
The second round of play begins on Monday, with teams beginning to tee off at 10 a.m.
