October 15, 2016 | Women's Golf
Lauren Hartlage is tied for 18th, and Jacqueline Twitty is tied for 23rd.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Freshman Lauren Hartlage shot a 2-over-par 74 and is tied for 18th, but the University of Louisville women's golf team slipped to 13th on Saturday at the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C.
Hartlage, who snapped a five-round streak of shooting even or below par, opened the day with consecutive birdies on Nos. 1 and 2. She had trouble on three of the next six holes, clubbing a double bogey on No. 4 and then bogeys on Nos. 6 and 8 for a 2-over-par on the front side. She performed better after the turn, carding an even-par 36 on the back side, giving the Elizabethtown, Ky., native a 1-over-par 145 through 36 holes.
Sophomore Jacqueline Twitty, the Cardinals' leading golfer on Friday, is tied for 23rd. After only two bogeys in the opening round, she recorded four through her first nine holes – two more later in the day – and totaled a 5-over-par 77 in the second round. Currently, she boasts a 2-over-par 146.
Both Hartlage and Twitty are less than six strokes from the six-way tie for fifth.
Collectively, the Cardinals registered a 14-over-par 302 in the second round. Overall, Louisville owns a 21-over-par 597, while Wake Forest and Alabama are tied for first with a 7-over-par 569. Louisville, which still boasts a stellar 4.95 average on par-5 holes, is only managing a 4.37 on par-4 holes.
Shannon Gramley, following a season-best 2-over-par 74, is tied for 54th behind a 7-over-par 151. Olivia Cason rounds out the Cardinals' scoring and is tied for 81st.
The Cardinals resume play for the final round on Sunday, teeing off with LSU and UNC Wilmington, at 9:15 a.m.
