January 07, 2016 | Men's Tennis
Cards ranked as a team and in singles and doubles
The University of Louisville men's tennis team enters the 2016 dual match season at No. 36 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings released on January 5. Additionally. senior Alex Gornet stands at No. 108 in the singles rankings while teaming with fellow senior Jeffrey Brown to stand at No. 57 in doubles.
"With graduating six of my top seven players from last season, being nationally ranked in the 30s is not bad," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "Our goal obviously by the end of the season is to develop and be ranked higher. I am proud of Alex for being ranked both in singles and doubles. He is a strong contender to be all-ACC this year and he and Jeff Brown can be one of the better doubles teams in the league."
The Cardinals are coming off of a 23-9 campaign in 2015 while posting a 7-5 record in their inaugural season. Louisville capped off the year with its 11th NCAA appearance.
Gornet (Louisville, Ky.)registered a 12-6 singles record in the fall. Last season, he tallied a 25-13 overall mark in singles and went 15-9 in dual matches while playing mostly at No. 2 and 3. In the fall
