Track and Field Finishes with Two Wins at the Kentucky Invitational

Kibichiy and Wash lead the Cardinals with wins on the second day of competition

Louisville, Ky. – The University of Louisville track and field teams wrapped up the first weekend of competition in 2016 with two wins at the Kentucky Invitational on Saturday. Edwin Kibichiy and Bre'Yana Wash led the team with wins in the men's mile run and the women's long jump, respectively.

"Overall the weekend was a success," said head coach Dale Cowper. 'We came out healthy and now have a clear indication of where each individual stands. Both squads have work to do as we prepare for the great competition at Notre Dame next week."

Kibichiy ran a personal best of 4:09.16 to win the mile run. Wash won her first event of the season with a mark of 5.87m/19-03.25 in the long jump.

Other highlights of the day were Japhet Kipkoech with a personal best time of 8:28.09 in the 3000m to finish third. The men's 4x400m relay team of Antoine Keys, Carlos Coleman, Jeron Brown and Teague Peck finished third with a time of 3:15.78.

Chanel Krause finished fourth in the pole vault with a mark of 3.91m/12-10.00. Andrew Nsuk ran a personal best time of 48.82 to finish fourth in the 400m. Emmonnie Henderson finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 16.14m/52-11.50. Jonathan Reynolds ran a personal best time of 4:17.55 to finish fourth in the mile run.

Freshman Mara Zielonka had a personal best mark of 1.65m/5-05.00 to finish fifth in the high jump. Oliver Newport finished fifth in the long jump with a mark of 7.15m/23-05.50. Sophomore Mia Ross finished fifth in the 800m run with a time of 2:16.36.

The Cardinals will be back in action next weekend at the Notre Dame Invitational.
