September 04, 2015 | Men's Tennis
Cards will play 19 matches at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville men's tennis coach has released the 2015-16 schedule which includes five top 20 teams and 19 matches at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
"I am excited about this schedule," said Ecarma. "It is probably more ambitious then it should be with a team that lost the majority its lineup and key reserves due to graduation, but I am bullish on this top 20 freshman class and want to give them opportunity to grow as well as giving seniors Alex Gornet and Jeffrey Brown to play big matches. The fall invitationals are among the best tournaments in the country. To start of the season in Malibu, California for the Pepperdine Invitational then finishing January in Athens, Georgia for the National Kick-Off tournament. We may have scheduled over our heads but I never want to underestimate the growth of our team."
In September, the Cardinals will open an action-packed fall season that features nine tournaments including the Louisville Winter Invitational. UofL will begin fall play Sept. 18-20 at the Duke Fab Four Invitational and will wrap up the month at the Purdue Invitational. The All-American Championships will be held Oct. 3-8 in Tulsa, Okla., with the Illinois Prequalifying Tournament scheduled for the following weekend. Louisville will send selected players to Knoxville, Tenn., for the Ohio Valley Regionals which will take place Oct. 15-19.
Fans will have the opportunity to watch several of the Cardinals' newest players at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center at the Louisville Winter Invitational which is slated for Oct. 30 – Nov. 1. Rounding out fall action are the Vanderbilt Invitational and the Alabama Invitational.
Upon return from the winter break, Louisville will travel to Malibu, Calif., for a pre-dual season tune-up at the Pepperdine Invitational. The Cards will officially open the 2016 season with four straight matches at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center starting with a double header against Troy and Dayton on Jan. 15. Two days later, Northwestern and Morehead State will visit Louisville for another doubleheader. The Cards will end close out January in Athens, Ga., where they will face Memphis in the opening round of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend. Georgia and Santa Barbara will square off in the other regional opening round match.
The first week of February will bring a pair of road matches at Middle Tennessee and Oregon before the Cards return to the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center to face Butler and Valparaiso in a twin bill on Feb. 12. Louisville will travel to East Lansing, Mich., to take on Michigan State on Feb. 14.
The Cardinals will open ACC play against top-ranked and 2015 NCAA champion Virginia on March 4 at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. Murray State will visit the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center for the second half of the doubleheader. The Cards will continue ACC play at Notre Dame before returning home for four straight matches against Georgia Tech, IUPUI, Clemson and Northern Kentucky. The Cards will then hit the road pair of top-20 ACC road matches at North Carolina and Virginia before closing out the month of March at No. 10 Duke.
Coming down the regular season homestretch, Louisville will open the month of April with a doubleheader at home against NC State and Southern Illinois. The Cardinals will head to Florida to face ACC foes Florida State and Miami before finishing the regular season with three-straight home matches against Belmont, Boston College and No. 13 Wake Forest.
The 2016 ACC Championship will be held April 20-24 in Cary, N.C.
