Cards defeat Crimson Tide on Sunday at ACC-SEC Challenge
NASHVILLE – The University of Louisville men's golf team claimed a highly contested victory over Alabama on Sunday at the DICK'S Sporting Goods Collegiate Challenge Cup, winning 3-2 over the 20th-ranked Crimson Tide.
The ACC retained the Conference Champion trophy by edging the SEC, 15.5-14.5, in match play.
"We're happy to get the win here today," Louisville head coach Mark Crabtree said. "It was a great win against a great program that were national champions in 2013 and 2014. I'm happy for our players for such a big win."
In a battle of top players. Alabama's Robby Shelton, who was the medlist at the SEC-ACC Challenge, defeated Robin Sciot-Siegrist 4&3 in a highly-contested match-up.
Patrick Frodigh posted Louisville's most decisive win of the day, downing Alabama's Jonathan Hardee 1UP. Simon Zach was also victorious for Louisville with a 3&2 win over Alabama's Davis Riley. J.D. Lehman was 1UP on Jason Prater, while Hugo Esposito lost to Tom Lovelady 5&4.
A 90-minute highlight show of the tournament will be broadcast on ESPNU on Sunday, Oct. 18, at 12:30 p.m. ET.
The Cardinals will be back in action from Oct. 9-11, as they travel up the road to the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate.
