Louisville Lacrosse Italy Blog
June 27, 2015 | Women's Lacrosse
Louisville Lacrosse got the experience of a lifetime as they traveled overseas to the beautiful country of Italy! Bouncing all around from Lake Como, Milan, Cinque Terre, Rome, Pisa, Capri Island and even Switzerland, the Louisville Lacrosse team had an exciting time seeing new sights and having the wonderful opportunity to grow the game of lacrosse. We invite you to follow along on our blog as members of the team share with you stories, pictures, and memories of the trip they will never forget.
DAY 4: CINQUE TERRE, FIVE CITIES AND THE LEANING TOWER OF PISA
Just how leaning might the tower of Pisa be one might ask? Well, as we walked up to it the question on everyone's mind was, well did they think it was straight when they were building it? A slight head tilt, and perhaps they did.
The tower stood next to a beautiful church, both buildings polished white and very romantic in their architecture. The tower was surrounded by a little market place that sold food and souvenirs. But what was the real souvenir? Well… the photo of course, and naturally, as athletes… we were ALL able to prop the tower up.
DAY 5: FLORENCE THE ART CAPITAL OF ITALY
After traveling to so many beautiful places in the last several days, we were more than excited to see what Florence was all about. Florence is a beautiful city, populated by tourists and locals who want to explore just as badly as we did.
After our arrival in Florence, we had a tour through some of the city's most historic places, such as the museum where Galileo Galilee was buried. Galleria Dell'Accademia is the museum where many of Michelangelo's sculptures are kept, such as the statue of David.
What we really enjoyed about Florence was the shopping. Florence is famous for their leather products, so naturally we had to buy a few leather things to take home. What was really neat about where we bought a leather handbags was the market. The market was basically a couple streets that look like Canal Street in New York. There are street vendors set up all day to bargain prices for designer bags and they don't stop until you buy one. Or if you're Courtney Boyd, they finally agree to letting you buy a nice bag for 15 Euros. After negotiating bag prices, we stopped to get a caprese sandwich (yum) on a side street, but what's a meal without gelato?
