The University of Louisville's Sebastian Stiefelmeyer and Albert Wagner earned all-ACC Men's Tennis honors as announced by the conference office Monday. Stiefelmeyer was named to the first team while Wagner was selected to the third team.
"I am so happy for both Sebastian and Albert. They have been the pillars of our senior class and our entire team for four years," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "The guys have been a great example of focus, discipline and love for the game. They are great students and ambassadors for the program."
Stiefelmeyer (Vienna, Austria) takes home his fourth all-conference first team award after posting a 10-2 record against ACC opponents. The senior carries a 40-5 overall singles mark - a school record for single season wins - and is 22-2 in dual matches as the Cards' top-seeded player. He is also ranked third on the school's list for career wins with 112.
Stiefelmeyer is No. 6 in the most recent ITA singles rankings (April 21). On Jan. 3, he became the first player in program history to earn the nation's top ranking in singles and reached No. 1 again on March 10. He has remained in the top eight throughout the 2015 season. In September, 2014, he captured the outdoor Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-American Championship, winning nine-consecutive matches for the title, including six upset victories.
In doubles, Stiefelmeyer holds a 22-13 overall record and is 15-9 in dual matches.
"Sebastian, being named first team in the top tennis conference in America is huge," said Ecarma. "Possibly all of the first team players will also be named ITA All-Americans as well. I truly feel Sebastian is the best player in this conference and I am so proud of him."
In addition to his ACC accolades, Stiefelmeyer was named to the American Athletic Conference singles team in 2014 and was a first team BIG EAST selection in 2013 and 2012 when he also picked up conference Freshman of the Year honors.
Albert Wagner (Amberg, Germany) earns his fourth all-conference nod after producing a 7-5 record against players from the ACC . The senior holds a 31-12 overall singles record and a 17-7 mark in dual matches playing mostly at Nos. 2 and 3. He is currently No. 95 in the ITA singles rankings and has been ranked in singles throughout the season reaching as high as No. 59. He stands sixth on Louisville career list for singles wins with 101.
In doubles, Wagner carries a 20-16 mark and is 11-9 in dual matches. He is tied for seventh on Louisville's list for career doubles victories with 86.
"Albert has had a great season and the conference coaches have noticed," said Ecarma. "He is nationally ranked in singles and won 101 singles matches in his career. He is our best on court competitor and I trust him tremendously. He has been a no-nonsense, goal-oriented guy since day one. Not every team had two players named All-ACC and we appreciate their acknowledgement of Sebastian and Albert."
Wagner was an American Athletic Conference doubles selection in 2014 and earned All-BIG EAST honors in 2013 and 2012.
