LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The 17th-ranked Louisville rowing team will compete for a second straight weekend while making the long journey to the Pacific Northwest for the third annual Oregon State Classic.
The Cardinals will have varsity eight, varsity four and second varsity eight crews competing in the one-day event. Louisville will open the day with morning races against Oregon State and Minnesota before concluding with afternoon races against No. 5 Stanford, No. 8 Washington, Oregon State and Minnesota.
"This is a great event for our team because we will not only compete against some of the top programs, but it's also a group of teams we don't see very often," said Louisville head coach Derek Copeland. "These types of races and events can have a big impact on NCAA Championship berths. The format is also unique in in that we will race against Oregon State and Minnesota in the morning and then all of the teams will lineup in the afternoon."
This weekend marks the second straight season and the sixth time in the last nine seasons Louisville has traveled to the west coast to compete. However, it will be the Cardinals' first visit to the state Oregon as each of the previous west coast trips took them to California.
Last weekend, Louisville earned six race wins at the ACC/Big Ten Double Dual. During the morning session, the Cardinals earned five race wins against Michigan State from the varsity eight, varsity four, second varsity eight, second varsity four and second novice eight crews. In the afternoon session, Louisville's novice eight boat knocked off No. 1 Ohio State.
Following Saturday's event in Corvallis, the Cardinals will have a week off from competition before returning to action at the Clemson Invitational on April 18-19.
