The No. 14 University of Louisville lacrosse team is set to face No. 9 Syracuse on Thursday afternoon at UofL Lacrosse Stadium.
The Cards enter the game with a record of 9-5 and 1-4 in the ACC after falling to No. 6 Virginia 17-9 last weekend. Hannah Koloski scored three goals while Cortnee Daley and Anna Kopecka each added two to lead the Cardinals in the loss.
No. 9 Syracuse enters Thursday's match boasting an overall record of 9-6 and 2-4 in conference play. Syracuse has also lost two straight, falling to conference foes, No. 13 Notre Dame 12-11 in overtime and No. 2 North Carolina 15-8 last week.
Syracuse holds a 5-0 series record against the Cardinals.
Scouting the Cardinals
Louisville owns an overall record of 9-5 and is ranked 14th in the nation by both the IWLCA poll and the Inside Lacrosse Poll. The Cardinals are 5-2 at home this season with wins over Cincinnati, Canisius, Duquesne, William & Mary, and Vanderbilt. As a team, Louisville is ranked 11th in the nation in scoring offense, averaging 13.86 goals per game and allowing 8.79 goals per contest. Additionally, the Cardinals rank second in the nation in draw controls, averaging 16.36. Faye Brust leads the team with 55 points, scoring 45 goals and 10 assists on the season. Brust ranks 10th in the nation with 45 goals on the season and ranks eighth in the nation in goals per game with 3.46. Kaylin Morissette ranks second in the nation in draw controls, averaging 11.29 per game, while also grabbing 29 ground balls. Morissette is second on the team with 52 points with 39 goals and 13 assists. Hannah Koloski is ranked 13th in the nation with 44 goals and is 16th in the nation with 3.15 goals per game. Koloski (44 goals and five assists) has totaled 49 points while Cortnee Daley (37 goals and eight assists) has totaled 45 points for the Cards.
Scouting the Orange
Syracuse enters Thursday's matchup ranked ninth in the nation by both the IWLCA poll and the Inside Lacross Poll. The Orange enters the game with an overall record of 9-6 and 2-4 in conference play. Syracuse is coming off a 15-8 loss against North Carolina last time out. Syracuse ranks 17th in the nation with 13.27 goals per game. The Orange is ranked fourth in the nation in draw controls, averaging 15.60 per game. Kayla Treanor leads the Orange with a team-high 37 goals. Halle Majorana leads the Orange with 60 points (35 goals, 25 assists). Kailah Kempney ranks third in the nation with 8.20 draws per game. Goalkeeper Kelsey Richardson has a total of 106 saves on the season, averaging 7.07 per game.
SEASON NOTES
First Shutout in School History
The Cardinals earned their first shutout in school history against Duquesne on March 4. Louisville defeated the Dukes 17-0. Goalkeeper Ashley Peacock became the first keeper in school history to earn a shutout.
Ranked Opponents
The Cardinals have played the toughest schedule in school history this season. Heading into today's game, the Cardinals will play its seventh ranked opponent. Louisville's four losses have come against schools ranked in the top four of the nation. Of the seven ranked opponents this season, four are ranked in the top four. North Carolina was the highest ranked opponent the Cards have faced this year. The Cardinals are 1-45so far this season against ranked opponents with a win over No. 20 Denver and losses to No. 2 North Carolina, No. 3 Boston College, No. 4 Duke, and No. 4 Northwestern, No. 6 Virginia.
Morissette Breaks Career Draws Record
Junior Kaylin Morissette broke the school draw controls record with 18 in a 15-4 win against Longwood. Her mark is two off the NCAA record set that was set a few days prior by Jessica Karwacki of Robert Morris. Morissette broke the career draw controls record in the first game of the season. She opened the season, tying her record of 14 draw controls in a game. In 13 games of the season, the midfielder has 158 draw controls.

Brust and Morissette Score 100th Career Goal
Senior Faye Brust became the sixth player and junior Kaylin Morissette became the seventh player in school history to score 100 goals. Brust's second goal in the Canisius game put her over the century mark for her career. She currently has 142 goals and is fifth on the all-time scoring list for the Cardinals. Morissette became the seventh player in school history to score 100 goals with her fifth goal against Duquesne and is sixth on the all-time scoring list with 125 goals.

Morissette Named to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List
The Tewaaraton Foundation has announced that Louisville's Kaylin Morissette was one of 50 players named to the watch list. The lists include the top players across all three divisions of NCAA lacrosse and highlight the early contenders for the 2015 Tewaaraton Award, presented by Under Armour. Morissette leads the team in scoring this season with 35 goals. She also leads the team in draw controls with 118 on the season.
Koloski Steps Up
Hannah Koloski made an immediate impact this season. The sophomore led Louisville with a career-best six goals in the season opener against Cincinnati. She is currently ranked 15th in the nation with 3.25 goals per game. She is second on the team in goals with 39 this season. She ranks third on the team with 43 points on the year.
Gerdings Career Day
Junior Kelli Gerding scored a career-high four goals in the Cards' 18-5 win over William & Mary on March 7. Gerding scored two goals in the first half, including her first goal of the half to give the Cards a cushion when the Tribe had gotten within one goal. She started the scoring in the second half to five the Cards a 10-2 lead. She scored her final goal of the game for a 14-2 Louisville lead.
ACC Preseason Poll
The University of Louisville lacrosse team was picked to finish seventh in the ACC Women's Lacrosse Preseason Poll. North Carolina and Syracuse have been selected as the preseason favorites. The Orange and the Tar Heels each received four first-place votes and 59 points in the balloting among the ACC's eight head coaches. Two points separated the third, fourth and fifth place teams selected in the predicted order of finish as Duke was picked third (40), Virginia fourth (39) and Boston College (38) fifth. Preseason All-ACC
Junior midfield Kaylin Morissette was one of six returning First- and-Second Team IWLCA All-Americans as selected to the preseason All-ACC Team. The 2014 BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year, Morissette broke the school's single-season record for draw controls just 10 games into the season and finished the year with 169. Nationally, she ranked second in the category with 8.45 per game. She also tallied 43 goals and 12 assists, while collecting 33 ground balls. Morissette was named a second team IWLCA All-American. She needs just 12 draw controls to become the school's career leader in the category. Through her first two seasons, the Bowmanville, Ontario, native has totaled 100 points that includes 86 goals.
Brust and Daley Named Captains
Head coach Kellie Young announced that Faye Brust and Cortnee Daley will serve as Louisville's 2015 team captains as the Cardinals look to build off the momentum from last year for another record-breaking season. "I'm excited to announce this year's captains," said Young. "We are happy about the players' selection of captains and believe in their ability to guide their teammates. Their cohesive passion is remarkable and will be a driving force behind our team's success this spring."
