
Track and Field Completes Day Two at the Alabama Relays

Tuscaloosa, Ala. - - The Louisville track and field teams finished up the second day of competition at the Alabama relays with two new school records in the 4x200 meter relays.
The women's 4x200 meter relay team of Alexis Murry, Kayla Tyson, Taylor Bradley and Bre'Yana Wash finished sixth with a time of 1:39.34. They broke the previous school record of 1:41.55 set at the Alabama Relays in 2000. Then the men's team of Josh Hall, Antoine Keys, Andrew Nsuk and Carlos Coleman finished seventh in the event with a time of 1:26.86. They broke the school record of 1:27.27 also set at Alabama Relays in 2004.
"I was happy to see both relay teams start the day off with new school records in the 4x200," said head coach Dale Cowper. "We don't have the opportunity to run that race very often and they did a great job of taking advantage of the opportunity to set a couple of school records."
"We also had solid performances throughout the day from several individuals including Teague Peck and Carlos Coleman in the 400 meters. Edwin Kibichiy and Michelle Molodynia did a great job in the 1500 meter run. Steve Wade and Isaac Bowling both placed in the top 10 of the shot put and Brittany Owens and Devin Valentine both finished in the top five of the triple jump. While the women's 5000 meter run put an exclamation point on the day with three big personal bests from Megan, Claire and Leah."
Owens had a personal best in the triple jump to finish fifth. Owens jumped 12.08m/39-7.75 in her second attempt to finish in the top five. On the men's side, Valentine finished fourth with a jump of 14.80m/48-6.75. Kaleb Rowe finished 17th with a jump of 13.63m/44-8.75.
Peck and Coleman had impressive performances in the 400 meter dash to begin the outdoor season. Peck finished third with a time of 48.52 while Coleman finished sixth with a time of 48.90.
In the shot put, Bowling finished fifth after throwing 16.70m/54-9.50 in his final attempt. Wade finished sixth with a throw of 16.69m/54-9.25. On the women's side, Rachel Serafin finished 14th with a throw of 13.10m/42-11.75. Megan Brooks finished 23rd with a throw of 11.96m/39-3.
In the women's 5000 meter run, Benadate Cheruiyot finished sixth with a time of 16:58.18. Senior Megan Klein finished 13th with a new personal best time of 17:15.56. Claire Noser also finished with a personal best time of 17:38.82 to finish 24th and Leah Kiyohara finished 27th with a personal best time of 17:49.19. On the men's side, Japhet Kipkoech finished third with a time of 14:43.44.
In the women's 1500 meter run, Molodynia finished 12th with a time of 4:37.27. On the men's side, Kibichiy finished 12th with a time of 3:52.65 for a new personal best. Andrew Stewart finished 19th with a time of 3:54.56.
Maggie Gilbertson finished fifth in the women's high jump, clearing 1.70m/5-7. While Kelsie Courtney finished 17th after clearing 1.65m/5-5 and tying her personal best.
In the 400 meter hurdles, Calvin Arsenault finished eighth with a time of 53.77. On the women's side, Gwen Shaw finished ninth with a time of 1:03.20 and Zahara Gully finished 15th with a time of 1:04.68.
In the men's pole vault, Eric Fox finished 13th after clearing 4.60m/15-1. In the Section B competition Jacob Marguet finished second after clearing 4.60m/15-1.
The women's sprint medley relay team of Murry, Wash, La'Bianca Frazier and Mia Ross finished eighth with a time of 4:07.41. Zachery Main finished 20th in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.25.
