Ayeisha McFerran and Victoria Stratton named Longstreth/NFHCA All-America third team
The University of Louisville's Ayeisha McFerran and Victoria Stratton have been named to the 2015 Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-American third team.
Â
"To have two players honored as All-Americans in the same year is fantastic and is quite the achievement," said UofL head coach Justine Sowry. "Vic and Ayeisha were the backbone of our defensive unit this year and were pivotal in our team's success. For our players to be recognized nationally amongst the best in the nation, is something very special and I am very proud that they are representing Louisville Field Hockey."
Â
Stratton, a senior defender from Auckland, New Zealand, helped anchor the Cardinals' defense to nine shutouts on the season – one shy of the school record. The first-team NFHCA All-West region selection is a four-year starter and three-year captain. In 2015, she scored four goals and added one assist for nine points and was selected to play in the NFHCA Senior Game.
Â
McFerran, a freshman goalkeeper from Larne, Northern Ireland, is coming off of an impressive rookie season and is the first freshman in program history to earn All-America honors. The 2015 NFHCA All-West Region first team selection led the ACC – and tied the school season record - with nine shutouts. She posted a 1.24 goals-against average on the season, and earned ACC Defensive Player of the Week honors on Nov. 3.
Â
Stratton and McFerran become the 11th and 12th All-Americans in program history. This marks the first time Louisville has had two All-America selections in the same season.
Â
The Cardinals finished the 2015 campaign with a 13-7 overall record and made their second-straight NCAA appearance. Louisville was ranked No. 11 in the final Penn Monto/NFHCA National Coaches Poll released on Nov. 10 and spent seven weeks among the top 10 in the nation after opening the 2015 season at No. 12.
