Cards Send Two Doubles Teams to Collegiate Clay Court Semifinals

Gornet and Brown, Donohue and Morin-Kougoucheff reach doubles semifinals

ORLANDO, Fla. – The University of Louisville doubles teams of Alex Gornet and Jeffrey Brown and Sean Donohue and Chrisopher Morin-Kougoucheff have advanced to the semifinals of the Collegiate Clay Court Invitational. The Cardinals also picked up five singles wins Friday.

"After 14 hours on the court and in the sun we can look back at a good day for Cardinals tennis," said UofL assistant coach Jakob Gustafsson. "With two doubles teams in the semifinals we are ready to keep this going."

The Cardinals went undefeated in doubles. Seniors Jeffrey Brown and Alex Gornet, No. 35 in the preseason ITA doubles rankings, defeated Troy's Giovani Samaha and Pablo Moreno 8-7(2). Junior Sean Donohue and freshman Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff beat Troy's Andre Baldo and Daniel Bustamante 8-6.

In singles, senior Alex Gornet posted two wins on the day. The senior defeated Florida State's Terrell Whitehurst 6-0, 2-6, 13-11 and UCF's #104 Mariano Porter 7-5, 6-4. Freshman Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff also had a pair of wins topping Florida State's Jack Haffey 6-4, 6-3 and South Alabama's Juan Troglia 6-3, 6-3. Senior Jeffrey Brown fell 6-0, 6-2 to South Carolina's Gabriel Friedrich , but rebounded to beat UCF's Christopher Barrus 4-6, 6-4, 10-4.
