Cards honor 2015 seniors after the Rutgers game
On November 1, the University of Louisville honored the senior class of 2015 following the 1-0 win against Rutgers at Trager Stadium.
Â
As a class, Megan Anstotz, Elisa Garcia, Katharine Gwynne-Wood and Victoria Stratton have been a valuable part of Louisville's success over the past four years. The group has helped the Cardinals win 55 games while compiling an impressive 40-7 record at Trager Stadium including a perfect 10-0 mark in 2013.
Â
They have helped the program reach several milestones while leading the transition into the ACC. Their teams have been a mainstay in the national top 20 rankings, while spending 13 weeks among the top 10, reaching as high as No. 5 in 2014.
Â
As juniors, they each played a part in Louisville's victory over top-ranked North Carolina, notching the program's first ACC win and first victory over a No. 1 team. As sophomores, they played an integral part in winning a share of the 2013 BIG EAST regular season championship.
Â
This class has also excelled academically, earning the National Field Hockey Coaches' Association Academic team award in each of their seasons here.
Â
"When I think of this group, they've had very tough shoes to fill because we graduated so many starters from the team last year, and it was a tough role for them," said Sowry. "Each of them contributed in their own special way they've all stepped up in different ways,'Woodie' with her amazing speed and her attacking flair, Megan with her versatility and putting the team first, and Victoria and 'Chile' have been our captains and leaders for a couple of years and have really built a strong defensive unit. Not many goals have been scored against us this year and I credit a lot of that to their leadership in the backfield. Importantly to this group is their leadership. They've been great mentors to a very young team with seven freshmen. I'm very proud of them, because we've had a very successful year to date and I owe a lot to the senior class for being good leaders and mentors."
