
Cardinals Fall 2-1 at Wake Forest on Saturday Night

Cardinals fall in regular season finale
WINSTON SALEM, NC. - The University of Louisville women's soccer team fell 2-1 on the road against Wake Forest to end the regular season on Saturday night.Â
The Demon Deacons opened the scoring in the 27th minute. Kendall Fischlein crossed it into the box, to Bayley Feist who headed it past Taylor Bucklin to give the Demon Deacons a 1-0 lead. The Cardinals weren't able to get much going on offense in the first half.Â
Wake Forest ended the first half with a 6-2 shot advantage and a 1-0 corner kick advantage. Louisville keeper Taylor Bucklin finished with two saves.

The Cardinals' (8-8-2, 4-5-1 ACC) offense got going early in the second half, looking for the equalizer. Alison Price had a shot in the first half but it was saved by Wake's Lindsay Preston. Lexie Niedoba had a header off a corner kick in the 52nd minute but Preston made the save again.Â
Then in the 74th minute, Wake was able to take a 2-0 lead. Peyton Perea sent a deflection inside the far post to give the Demon Deacons an insurance goal. Louisville had two shots in a minutes span but Preston made the save on Jill Vetere's and Isabella Habuda's shots.
The offensive pressure paid off in the 85th minute. Niedoba sent a cross to Shelby Cohen, who drilled an upper-90 rocket, cutting the margin to 2-1.
Each side had chances to score in a frantic final six minutes. First, Louisville looked to make it two goals in less than a minute, but Price's one on one with the keeper was saved. In the 88th minute, Wake's Sarah Teegarden dribbled into the box and unleashed a shot that ricocheted off the crossbar. Wake Forest maintained possession but Bucklin made the save.
Louisville took it from end to end, where Price had another one on one with the keeper but Preston made a diving save to secure the win for Wake.
Wake Forest had slight 15-11 shot advantage and a 9-7 shots on goal advantage.  While each team finished with three corners apiece. Bucklin finished with seven saves while Wake's Preston finished with six saves.
