Women's Soccer Falls 3-1 to Top Ranked Florida State

Cardinals fall in final home match of the season to No. 1 Florida State
LOUISVILLE, KY. - The University of Louisville women's soccer team fell 3-1 to No. 1 Florida State on Saturday evening in Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium. Â The game was the final regular season home game for the Cardinals who wrap up the season with three consecutive road games. Â

The top ranked Seminoles put the Cardinals on their heels early on the defensive end. Â Florida State pressured the Louisville defense with three corners in the opening five minutes. Â The pressure paid off in the eighth minute with a goal from the Seminoles' Megan Connolly.

The lead quickly went to 2-0 with a goal from Chenya Williams in the 11th minute as she scored a loose ball in the box. Two minutes later, Florida State played in a corner kick perfectly to go up 3-0.
The Cardinals finally settled down and had its first shot of the game from senior Aubrey Baker but FSU's Cassie Miller deflected the ball over the net. Â On the corner kick, sophomore Inger Katrine Bjerke took a shot that sailed high.
The Seminoles had another opportunity in the 26th minute but the header shot ricocheted off the crossbar and was cleared by the Cardinal defense.
Florida State took a 3-0 lead into the half and also held a 9-2 shot advantage and a 5-1 corner kick advantage. Â Taylor Bucklin finished with three saves while Miller finished with one.

In the second half, the Cardinals continued to build momentum offensively and tightened up defensively. Â Jill Vetere had a shot in the 64th minute but Miller was there to collect the save. Â Neither team was able to get another shot until the 77th minute. Â Aubrey Baker lobbed in a ball from the sideline to keep it inbound, which landed on Miller's foot. Â Vetere was right there with the keeper and was able to kick the ball off her foot into the back of the net. It was the freshman's first goal of the season. Â
The goal snapped an FSU consecutive scoreless streak of 503:39, dating back to an own goal against Clemson on September 24, which is the fifth longest streak in school history.Â
Louisville continued to keep possession for the majority of the remainder of regulation and Caroline Kimble's shot in the 84th minute went just high of the goal. Despite a strong second half effort the Cardinals fell 3-1.
Florida State finished with a 16-6 shot advantage and a 7-1 corner kick advantage. Â Bucklin finished with five saves while Miller finished with two saves. Â
The Cardinals (7-6-2, 3-3-1 ACC) will be back in action on Thursday, Oct. 22 as they travel to No. 2 Virginia at 7:00 p.m. Â
