Track and Field Finishes Day One at the Indiana Relays

The Louisville track and field team finished day one at the Indiana relays with a win and two a runner-up finishes Friday evening. Sophomore Nick Kennedy picked up his first collegiate win in the long jump and freshmen Jade Hawkins Jacob Marguet finished second in the pole vault.
"We had several solid performances tonight," said head coach Dale Cowper. "There are a few places where stronger potential is growing. Nick Kennedy led us with his first collegiate win in the men's long jump. Overall, it was a good opening day to the annual Indiana Relays and both squads can build on the momentum from tonight going into the meet tomorrow."
Kennedy led the Cardinals on the first day of competition with a win in the long jump. Kennedy leaped 7.04m/23' 1¼" for his first collegiate win. Freshman Jacob Marguet cleared a personal best of 4.70m/15' 5" to finish second in the pole vault. Teammate Cain Cooper finished fourth, clearing 4.55m/14' 11" for a new personal best. Eric Fox also had a personal best of 4.55m/14' 11" to finish seventh.
Also on the men's side, Calvin Arsenault finished with a season best time of 7.98 in the preliminaries of the 60 meter hurdles. Arsenault finished with the top time in the preliminaries. Isaac Bowling finished fourth in the men's shot put with a throw of 16.15m/53' 0".
Carlos Coleman finished with a personal best time of 22.62 in the 200 meters to finish 12th. Eric Fox finished 22nd with a time of 23.68. Andrew Nsuk finished seventh in the 600 meters with a time of 1:23.62.
On the women's side, Hawkins led the vaulters with a second place finish. Hawkins cleared a person best of 3.70m/12' 1½". Chelsea Bingham finished third, clearing 3.70m/ 12' 1½". Kelsey DeLapp cleared 3.55m/ 11' 7¾" to finish 10th.
Sophomore Kayla Tyson finished with a personal best time of 25.15 to finish fifth in the 200 meters. Freshman Alexis Murry finished sixth in the 200 meters later heat with a time of 25.59. Tyson also qualified for the 60 meters finals tomorrow with a time of 7.77 in the preliminaries.
All four Cardinals qualified for the finals in the 60 meter hurdles. Brianne Brown led the way to finish third with a time of 8.81. Zahara Gully finished 11th with a time of 9.05. Alexis Murry finished 12th with a time of 9.11. Gwen Shaw ran a 9.15 to finish 14th.
The women's distance runners competed for the first time this season and had a solid start. The distance medley team of Michelle Molodynia, La'Bianca Frazier, Mia Ross, and Benadate Cheruiyot finished third with a time of 12:05.86. Senior Megan Klein finished fourth in the 3000 meter later run with a time of 10:06.14. Rachel Pease finished fifth in the 3000 meters with a time of 10:09.90. Claire Noser finished eighth with a time of 10:14.14. Leah Kiyohara finished 10th with a time of 10:16.12 while Alex Bunch ran an 11:03.66 to finish 19th. Cheruiyot finished 14th in the mile run with a time of 5:02.82 while Molodynia ran a 5:07.38 to finish 20th.
Ross ran a 1:37.84 in the 600 meters to finish ninth. Newcomer Linda Mutter finished 19th with a time of 1:41.97. Mutter also finished sixth in the long jump, leaping 5.24m/17' 2¼". Caitlin Gilmore finished sixth in the weight throw with a toss of 17.15m/56' 3" for a season best. Teammate Rachel Serafin finished 10th with a throw of 16.20m/53' 1".
