Men's Tennis Tops Murray State 7-0

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's tennis team cruised to a 7-0 win over visiting Murray State in the second match of its season-opening double header at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. After falling 5-2 to Drake in the first match, the Cards are now 1-1 on the season.
"Murray State was a good follow-up match for us," said Ecarma. "We really needed to get back on the court after a tough loss earlier today. Luis Elizondo looked particularly good. I thought Albert Wagner really played hard today."
The Cardinals swept all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead. The senior duo of Sebastian Stiefelmeyer and Van Damrongsri defeated Will True and Srdjan Trosic 6-0 at No. 2 while senior Luis Elizondo and junior Jeffrey Brown topped Aleks Mitric and Anjan Kashvab 6-2 at the No. 3 spot to clinch the first point of the match. Seniors Albert Wagner and Chris Simich wrapped up the doubles matches with a 6-2 win over Max McLean and David Hess at the top seed.
Louisville swept through singles with all six courts winning in straight sets. Wagner gave the Cards a 2-0 lead by defeating McLean 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1. Senior Michael Lippens added to the lead with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Mitric at the two-spot. Simich's 6-0, 6-1 win on court three clinched the win. Freshmen Stjepan Cagalj and redshirt freshman Santiago Salazar notched their first career dual match wins at Nos. 5 and 6 respectively. Elizondo closed the match with win at the No. 4 spot.
UofL will travel to Charlottesville, Va. , to compete in the ITA National Kick-Off Weekend. On Feb. 23, the Cards will play No. 51 VCU in the first round and the winner of that match will face the winner of No. 54 George Washington and No. 3 Virginia on Feb. 24
