Lacrosse Walks for Pediatric Cancer
September 30, 2014 | Women's Lacrosse
The University of Louisville women's lacrosse team participated in the CureSearch Walk for Children's Cancer at the Big Four Lawn a Waterfront Park on Sept. 13.
The walk provided the opportunity to reach out to those children and families affected by pediatric cancer from the Louisville area. They assisted in the walk by staffing volunteer stations, and participating in children's activities while helping to create a fun and lighthearted environment.
CureSearch for Children's Cancer Foundation's mission is to fund and support children's cancer research and provide information and resources to all those affected by children's cancer. Everyday, 42 children - nearly two classrooms of students are diagnosed with cancer. The foundation accelerates the cure for children's cancer by driving innovation, eliminating research barriers and solving the field's most challenging problems. CureSearch continues to fund therapeutic clinical trials at hospitals across the country.

"We had so much fun helping out at the Cure Search walk," said senior midfielder Carissa Corbett. "Some of us dressed up in superhero costumes but the real super heroes were the kids. It was a humbling experience seeing all of these young children fighting cancer with smiles on theirs faces."
The Cardinals' lacrosse team takes great pride in its ongoing efforts to provide service to the community and has won the CardsCARE award for the past two years. This award is given to the team who finishes the year with the most community service hours. In the 2013-14 season, lacrosse completed an impressive 1300 hours of service.
