Louisville Rowing Announces Four Spring Signees

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville rowing team announced the addition of four signees for the 2014-15 season during the late signing period.
Thrilled to have Rebecca Featherston, Sophie Shingleton, Nicole Snyder and Allison Zimmerman joining the class of 2018, this signing class of 13 athletes could be one of the top recruiting classes in Louisville history. The coaches describe this batch of recruits as hard working and talented and they expect them to have a major impact in the upcoming years of the program.
"We are so excited to have added this group of athletes to the class of 2018. They are definitely going to propel the team to new heights and really help fill the shoes of some fast seniors," said Louisville assistant coach Sarah McIlduff. "We have no doubt that this group as a whole will be one of the best recruited classes we've had at Louisville."
Last fall, the Louisville rowing program announced the signing of Mari Catharine Gillis, Kirsti Harrison, Callie McGowan, Elizabeth Patrick, Sarah Podwojski, Caitlin Ponko, Hannah Richardson, Leah Stump and Rebecca Yaklic for the 2014-15 season.
Rebecca Featherston
Rebecca Featherston
Hometown: Rockford, Mich.
Club: Rockford
Height: 5-0
Profile: Featherston was a coxswain at for Rockford High School where she coxed the men's four to a gold medal finish at the Midwest Championships and went on to cox them to a fourth-place finish at Nationals.
Coach Copeland on Featherston: "Rebecca has a very fun and lively personality. She is a strong leader and smart coxswain. Her great work ethic, positive personality and high level race experience will allow her to continue to grow at the next level."
Sophie Shingleton
Sophie Shingleton
Hometown: Christchurch, New Zealand
Club: Southern RPC
Height: 5-9
Profile: Shingleton began rowing in 2007 as a member of the Villa Maria College team and continued to row under Villa Maria for four years. After a dedicated winter in 2011 where she worked extremely hard, her efforts rewarded her with many successes at South Island and New Zealand National Championship regattas. She was selected into the Southern Regional Performance Program and New Zealand Junior Rowing Team in 2012.
Coach Copeland on Shingleton: "Sophie brings a lot of high level racing experience to the team. She is a fierce competitor with great boat feel. She has solid rowing experience that includes a competitive edge that we know will be an asset to the team. Rowing in the States will be a great opportunity for Sophie and one we know she will be extremely appreciative of."
Nicole Snyder
Nicole Snyder
Hometown: Wesley Chapel, Fla.
Club: Tampa Training Center
Height: 5-9
Profile: Snyder comes from Wesley Chapel Florida where she studied at Tampa Catholic High School. She trained at Tampa Training center and made the women's youth quad that will be competing at Youth Nationals next weekend.
Coach Copeland on Snyder: "There was something about Nicole that told me she would be perfect for our program. She is a strong competitor, a hard worker and she rows for one of the toughest coaches in the state. She is going to thrive at Louisville and we can't wait to see how she develops."
Allison Zimmerman
Allison Zimmerman
Hometown: Orlando, Fla.
Club: Orlando Area Rowing
Height: 5-8
Profile: Allison started rowing in January of this year. As a highly competitive gymnast and pole-vaulter, she wanted to try a sport where she could push herself to the limits and be part of a team atmosphere. She rows for Orlando Area Rowing Club where she started in the novice boat and ended in the varsity eight that qualified for Nationals.
Coach Copeland on Zimmerman: "Allison is one of the most driven, hard-working recruits we've had. Her athletic background really gives her a competitive edge that will help her take rowing by storm. We are excited to see her improve and develop at the D1 collegiate rowing level."
