LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville women's lacrosse's Nikki Boltja, Faye Brust, Kaylin Morissette, and Monica Negron are Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Association first team all-West region honorees.
The organization announced on Monday the first and second teams, each comprised of 16 student-athletes, for the four regions. These student-athletes now are eligible for inclusion on the IWLCA All-America teams, which will be announced on May 19. The IWLCA will honor the All-Americans at the IWLCA All-American banquet on June 7 at the Radisson Hotel Valley Forge in King of Prussia, Pa.
Louisville's four first-team honorees are tied for the second most by any school on a first team this year. Maryland had five selections on the South region's first team. The Cardinals' overall total is the second most in school history, behind their five selections in 2011.
The group helped Louisville to its most successful season in school history, advancing to the NCAA Sweet 16.
In addition to reaching the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history and achieving its first NCAA Tournament victory, Louisville won the BIG EAST regular-season and tournament titles. The school also capped a historical season that included school records in wins (16) and consecutive victories (12).
A 2013 IWLCA All-American, Boltja concluded her senior campaign ranked second nationally in goals (71), third in goals per game (3.55) and points per game (5.00), and fourth in points (100). The BIG EAST Attack Player of the Year has registered 14 hat tricks this year and totaled the 23rd-most assists in the country (29).
A junior, Brust put together the best season of her career. After combining for 26 goals in her first two seasons, the Bel Air, Md., matched Boltja with 71 scores to rank second nationally. Brust also ranks third in goals per game (3.55), while boasting the 17th-most points in the nation (78). She scored six of her goals in the BIG EAST Tournament championship victory Georgetown on May 3.
The BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year, Morissette broke the school's single-season record for draw controls just 10 games into the season and finished the year with 169. Nationally, she ranks second in the category with 8.45 per game. The sophomore also tallied 43 goals and 12 assists, while collecting 33 ground balls.
Negron, a co-captain, bolstered Louisville's defense as one of the top units in the country, ranking 15th nationally. The BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year started 19 games this season, logging 19 caused turnovers, 32 ground balls, and 45 draw controls. She also contributed to the Cardinals' offense, recording five goals and three assists.
