BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The University of Louisville softball team fell 8-3 to Indiana Wednesday evening.
The Hoosiers (14-33-1) jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first when Brianna Meyer led off the home half of the inning with a hit, took second on Breanna Saucedo's bunt single and came around to score on an RBI hit by Kassi Farmer. Walks to CaraMia Tsirigos and Natalie Lalich brought Saucedo home. Farmer crossed the plate when Jenna Abraham was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
Indiana used three walks, two hits and a hit batter to score three more runs in the third. Lalich was safe on an infield single and took second when Abraham was hit by a pitch. A two-out to Shelby Gogreve loaded the bases. Walks to Kelsey Dotson and Brianna Meyer brought Lalich and Abraham home and Gogreve score on Saucedo's RBI single to make the score 6-0.
CaraMia Tsingos' two-run homer increased IU's lead to 8-0 in the fourth.
Maggie Ruckenbrod put the Cardinals on the scoreboard when she connected on her first home run of the season to lead off the top of the fifth. Kelsi Jones delivered a two-out double and Katie Keller followed with a walk to set up Brittany Duncan's two-run double to make the score 8-3.
Maryssa Becker (12-5) took the loss, allowing three earned runs on three hits in the first inning. Duncan was 2 for 3 with two RBIs to lead Louisville at the plate.
Lora Olson (6-14) got the win, holding the Cards scoreless on two hits in 4.0 innings. Saucedo was 4 for 4 with two runs and an RBI.
The Cardinals (28-18) will wrap up play at Ulmer Stadium with a three-game American Athletic Conference series against Temple April 26-27. Saturday's games will honor the military and on Sunday, Louisville will honor seniors Caralisa Connell, Taner Fowler, Katie Keller, Hannah Kiyohara, Rachel LeCoq and Maggie Ruckenbrod.
