
Men's Tennis Falls to No. 3 Oklahoma

NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Louisville men's tennis team fell to third-ranked Oklahoma 5-2 Sunday afternoon at the Gregg Wadley Indoor Tennis Pavilion in Norman, Okla.
The Sooners took the doubles point to start the match. The 60th- ranked duo of Nick Papac and Peerakit Siributwong defeated Alex Gornet and Alex Brown 8-3 at No. 3 and Dane Webb and Austin Siegel beat Cardinals Albert Wagner and Chris Simich 8-5 at No. 2. Sebastian Stiefelmeyer and Van Damrongsri were tied at 6-6 when the doubles point was clinched.
In singles action, Oklahoma took a 2-0 lead when third-ranked Axel Alvarez defeated Sebastian Stiefelmeyer 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1. Second-ranked Guillermo Alcorta gave the Sooners a 3-0 lead at the two-spot when he registered a 6-4, 6-2 win over Albert Wagner. The match was clinched on court five where Peerakit Siributwong outlasted Van Damrongsri 7-5, 7-5.
Michael Lippens picked up a win for the Cardinals when he defeated Alex Ghilea 7-6, 6-2 at No. 6. At the No. 3 spot, Chris Simich gave OU's No. 24 -ranked Dane Webb all he could handle before bowing 7-6 (4), 7-6 (7). Louisville scored its second point when Alex Gornet beat Austin Siegel 4-6, 6-4 (13-11).
The Cardinals move to 8-4 for the season and host a doubleheader March 7 featuring Illinois State at 2 p.m. and Chicago State at 6 p.m. at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
