LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Louisville rowing program will close the fall competition schedule with a visit to Charlottesville, Va., on Sunday for the Rivanna Romp.
In an event hosted by the University of Virginia, the Cardinals and Cavaliers will be joined by crews from Oklahoma, Clemson, Duke, Old Dominion, Pennsylvania and Columbia. Louisville is expected to have two varsity eight crews, two novice eight crews and five varsity four boats competing on Sunday.
"This is the third year we've competed in this event and it's a good way for us to end the fall. We've put a lot of our focus into this weekend," said Louisville head coach Derek Copeland. "It's a pretty fair course and the coxswains are very important because of the tight moves that have to be made. With the passing that's needed at times and the bridges, it's certainly a coxswains race."
Following Sunday's event, the Cardinals will spend one additional week of fall training on the water before moving back inside. Louisville will return to the water for its annual winter training trip in Miami in preparation for the first event of the spring, the Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational March 14-15 in Oak Ridge, Tenn.
