
Volleyball Hosts Syracuse and Virginia

The Cardinals (13-8, 5-4 ACC) are coming off a 3-1 loss against Pittsburgh in which they were aced 15 times and out hit .259 to .186. The team did have a bright spot in which they tallied 16.5 total blocks. Janelle Jenkins led the squad in kills with 14 while Tess Clark added 10 along with a season high 11 blocks. Jenkins leads the team with 246 kills on the season with Maya McClendon adding 244. Katie George adds 821 assists on the season for the Cards while Tess Clark adds 95 total blocks and has 1.20 blocks per set.
The Cardinals will take on the Syracuse Orange, who are 8-13 overall and 1-8 in conference play, on Friday night at 7 p.m. This will be the second matchup of the season as Louisville swept Syracuse 3-0 in New York a few weeks ago. UofL hit .303 against Syracuse while Maya McClendon and Janelle Jenkins added 14 and 12 kills, respectively. Louisville held Syracuse to a .081 hitting average forcing 20 errors. Syracuse comes into the weekend after losing 3-2 to Georgia Tech. Junior Silvi Uattara led the Orange with 28 kills while hitting .338. Uattara leads the team with 298 kills on the season while junior middle blocker Monika Salkute adds 210. Junior Gosia Wlaszczuk has tallied 580 assists on the season for the Orange.
Louisville welcomes Virginia on Sunday for a 2 p.m. first serve. After two five-set wins last weekend, the Cavaliers sit at 13-9 and 6-3 in ACC play. This will also be the second match between the two teams when Virginia upended the Cards the first time, 3-1 in Charlottesville. Maya McClendon notched 17 kills while Jenkins added 10 for the Cards in the loss. Sophomore Jasmine Burton hit .402 while amassing 17 kills. Haley Kole and Tori Janowski added 12 kills apiece for the Cavaliers.
The Cavaliers have a balanced attack with five players with more than 150 kills on the season. Janowski leads the squad with 266 kills on the season while Burton adds 230 and Natalie Bausback adds 201. Junior setter Lauren Fuller is third in the league with 10.73 assists per set and has dished out 955 on the season. Virginia tallied a pair of five set wins last weekend over NC State and Notre Dame.
