
Field Hockey Travels to Ohio

The University of Louisville field hockey team will travel to Athens, Ohio to face Ohio University Tuesday at 3 p.m.
Cardinal Quick Hits
The Cardinals enter Tuesday's match ranked No. 7 in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association poll released on Oct. 14. After reaching the highest ranking of the season, the Cards dropped two spots after Saturday's loss at (then) No. 13 Syracuse.
The Cardinals have completed their inaugural ACC season with a 3-3 mark in league play which currently places them fourth in the standings.
Senior Alyssa Voelmle leads the team with 19 points and eight goals. Fellow senior Mallory Mason also has 19 points with six goals and seven assists. Junior Sydney King carries a 1.49 goals-against average with three shutouts.

Series Record: Ohio leads 27-10; Louisville has won the last four meetings
Last Meeting: Sept. 8, 2013- Louisville won 6-2 at Trager Stadium.
Scouting the Bobcats: Ohio comes in to the midweek match with a 3-8 overall record. In their last matchup, they snapped a five game losing streak with a 5-3 victory over Ball State. Senior Lauryl Desch scored three goals while junior Adele Sammons added two goals in the victory. Senior Caelyn Hartley added four assists in the match.
On the season, Ohio is led by Desch with five goals and Sammons who adds three. Sammons and Hartley lead the squad with seven points. Goalkeeper Brittany Walker leads the Bobcats with 41 saves on the season.

No. 7 Louisville 4 - California 0
Four different Cardinals scored while Sydney King collected seven saves en route to her third shutout of the season as host Louisville defeated Cal 4-0 on Saturday. Mallory Mason put the Cards on the scoreboard in the first half while Alyssa Voelmle, Lotta Kahlert and Stephanie Byrne tallied second-half goals.
No. 17 Boston College 2 - No 7 Louisville 1/OT
Eryn McCoy scored a pair of goals, including one in overtime to give No. 17 Boston College a 2-1 win over No. 7 Louisville in regionally televised contest on Fox Sports South. The loss snapped the Cards' 16-game home win streak. UofL completed regular season play in the ACC with a 3-3 record.

Following Tuesday's match, UofL will return to Trager Stadium for its home finale - and Senior Day - on Oct. 24 against UC Davis.
Louisville ranked No. 7 in NFHCA poll
The University of Louisville field hockey team is ranked seventh in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association poll released on Oct. 14. The Cardinals dropped two spots after reaching their highest ranking of fifth in last week's poll.
On Oct. 7, Louisville moved up seven spots to No. 5 in the coaches' poll marking the second top-five appearance in program history with Louisville achieving a program-best No. 4 ranking in the 2002 season.
The Cards are in their second straight week of being ranked in the top 10. Prior to this year, Louisville was last ranked in the top 10 in the 2010 season when the team reached as high as No. 8 and spent six weeks in the top 10.
All seven ACC teams are ranked this week, including five squads in the top 10 led by North Carolina at No. 1. It marks the 19th straight poll that every active ACC team has been ranked, dating back to October of 2012. Over the last 12 years, the No. 1 team in the country has been an ACC squad 90% of the time.
UofL No. 9 in RPI
The Cardinals are currently ninth in the NCAA's RPI, released on Oct. 14 - down six spots from last week's third place standing. Louisville has a 3-0 record against teams in the top 10:

#5 Duke - UL won 2-1
#8 Northwestern - UL won 1-0
How the Cards stack up nationally
UofL stands among the nation's leaders in several categories including: winning percentage (9th - 0.733), goals per game (14th - 3.07); points per game (15th - 8.40); scoring average (17th - 2.92); scoring margin (14th - 1.33) and assists per game (14th - 2.31).
Sydney King is 19th in goals against average (1.49).
Home Sweet Home
The Cardinals are 7-1 at Trager stadium in 2014. On Oct. 17, Louisville fell 2-1 in overtime to No. 17 Boston College, snapped a 16 -game home victory streak dating back to the 2012 season. In 2013, UofL posted a perfect 10-0 record at Trager Stadium, going undefeated at home for the first time in school history.
Prior to the Boston College loss, the Cards' last home loss came on Nov. 2, 2012 when they fell 2-1 in overtime to then-No. 5 Connecticut in the semifinals of the BIG EAST Championship.
Balanced Attack
The Cardinals have scored 46 goals on the season with senior Alyssa Voelmle's eight goals leading the way. Senior Mallory Mason follows closely with six goalsBecca Maddock follows closely with six while fellow senior Mallory Mason and sophomores Lotta Kahlert and Shannon Sloss each has five. Overall, 11 players have scored for UofL with nine of those players recording multiple goals.
Bonus Field Hockey
The Cardinals have gone in to overtime five times this season - including two games that ended in a second OT period. UofL owns a 3-2 record in those games. Below is a breakdown of Louisville's overtime results in 2014:

Sowry reaches century mark
On Sept. 14, the Cardinals defeated William & Mary 4-3 in overtime to give head coach Justine Sowry her 100th career win (in her ninth season). She has led Louisville to a 48-26record while in her fourth season at the helm.

The Cardinals are in the midst of their toughest schedule in program history. This season, they are 5-3 against ranked opponents this season with wins over (then) No. 1 North Carolina, No. 4 Duke, No. 14 Northwestern, No. 15 Michigan, No. 16 Wake Forest. Their losses came to (then-No. 9) Virginia (3-2 in 2OT), No. 13 Syracuse (3-1) and No. 17 Boston College (2-1/OT).
Still on the horizon is No. 18 Indiana.
Voelmle leaving her mark in the record book
Three-time all-conference selection senior Alyssa Voelmle currently has 65 career points and stands in ninth place on UofL's career list. She needs five more points to tie Jennifer Kastelic (2002-06).
Voelmle also has 27 career goals to place her seventh on Louisville's all-time list. She needs five more to tie Olivia Netzler (2001-03) for sixth place.
Jessica Javelet (2003-06) holds the all-time record for goals (69) and points (176).
Monsen and Garcia move up in career assists
Senior Paige Monsen led the Cards in assists in 2013 and is currently seventh on Louisville's all-time list with 24. She needs four more to match Lisa Wasser's (2003-06) sixth-place total of 28.
Junior Elisa Garcia is close behind with 22 career assists placing her tied for eighth on UofL's list for career assists.
Nicole Youman (2007-10) owns the record with 52.
