
Swimming Women Head to SMU Classic

The University of Louisville women's swimming and diving team is back in action on Friday and Saturday when it heads to the 21st annual SMU Classic at the Westside Natatorium in Lewisville.
Participating teams include LSU, USC with Louisville seeing its first ACC foe of the year in Miami and NC State as the Cards embark on their first year as a member. U of L is lead by Kelsi Worrell and Andrea Cottrell, who are both NCAA participants from a year ago when the women won the AAC and then finished 15th in the NCAA.
The Mustangs started off their season against Tulane and North Texas, finishing in the top two of every event at the North Texas Relays. SMU placed first in the 3x100-yard butterfly relay at 2:52.70, 800-yard freestyle relay at 7:40.63, 3x100-yard breaststroke at 3:18.07 and the 1,500-yard freestyle relay at 15:37.39.
The LSU Tigers finished seventh in the SEC and 36th in the NCAA last year. The Miami Hurricanes were 9th in the ACC and 21st at the NCAA. NC State was 4th in the ACC and 16th in the NCAA.
The USC women's swimming and diving team, which finished fifth at last year's NCAA Championships and are one of only 3 teams to finish in the top 7 five straight years are 1-0 this season. The Trojans return seven All-Americans, led by senior diver and two-time NCAA platform champion Haley Ishimatsu as well as juniors Kendyl Stewart, Jasmine Tosky, Kasia Wilk and Joanna Stenkvist and sophomores Chelsea Chenault and Evan Swenson.
The Cards will attend their first away meet of the season on Friday, October 17, with a season opener win against Xavier under their belt.
