The Cardinals (10-2, 3-1 ACC) enter the game ranked No. 5 in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association poll released on Oct. 7. This marks the second-highest ranking in school history - the highest came in the 2002 season when Louisville was ranked fourth.
Cardinal Quick Hits
UofL will be facing its third ranked opponent in a row and their fourth in five games. Following Saturday's game, the Cards will play host to No. 12 Boston College on Oct. 17 (ESPN3/Fox Sports South)
UofL is coming off of a 2-0 performance at home last weekend. The Cards opened the weekend with a 2-1 win over No. 4 Duke on Friday and followed with a 2-1 (2OT) victory over No. 15 Michigan on Sunday. Louisville now owns a 16-game home win streak dating back to the 2012 season.
Senior Alyssa Voelmle leads the team with 17 points and seven goals. Junior Sydney King carries a 1.45 goals-against average with two shutouts on the season.

Last Meeting: Sept. 29, 2012; Syracuse won 3-0 at J.S. Coyne Stadium. Scouting the Orange: Syracuse (8-3, 0-3 ACC) enters Saturday's game ranked No. 13 in the NFHCA coaches poll. The Orange are coming off of a 4-3 (2OT) win over Princeton on Sunday. Prior to that, Syracuse defeated Hofstra 6-2.
The Orange are currently in seventh place in ACC standings with losses to Virginia, Boston College and North Carolina.
Lieke Visser leads the team with 24 points (6G, 12A). Annalena Ulbrich has scored a team-high eight goals. Jess Jecko (6-3) carries a 1.94 goals-against average.

Louisville 2 - Michigan 1 (2OT)
Sophomore Lotta Kahlert's goal in the second minute of double overtime lifted the then-12th ranked University of Louisville field hockey team to a 2-1 win over No. 15 Michigan Sunday at Trager Stadium. Michigan took a 1-0 lead in the second half, but senior Mallory Mason tipped junior Elisa Garcia's shot to tie the score with five minutes remaining in regulation.
Louisville 2 - Duke 1
In a nationally-televised match, the 12th-ranked Cardinals got goals from junior Elisa Garcia and sophomore Erin McCrudden to take a 2-0 lead in the first half and held on to beat No. 4 Duke 2-1 on Friday.

Following Saturday's match, the Cardinals will face their fourth ranked opponent in a row and fifth in six games on Friday, Oct. 17 when they play host to No. 12 Boston College in an ACC matchup. The game will be shown live on ESPN3 and Fox Sports South at 3 p.m.
Louisville ranked No. 5 in NFHCA poll
The University of Louisville field hockey team jumped seven spots to No. 5 in the 2014 Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association coaches' poll released on Oct. 7.
This marks the second top-five appearance in program history with Louisville achieving a program-best No. 4 ranking in the 2002 season. It is also the first time the Cardinals have been ranked in the top 10 since the 2010 season when the team reached as high as No. 8 and spent six weeks in the top 10.
The Cardinals (10-2, 3-1 ACC) are coming off of a pair of wins over ranked opponents last weekend. On Friday, then-12th ranked Louisville upset No. 4 Duke 2-1 and followed that with a 2-1 victory over No. 15 Michigan on Sunday.
All seven ACC teams are ranked this week, including five squads in the top 10 led by North Carolina at No. 1. It marks the 18th straight poll that every active ACC team has been ranked, dating back to October of 2012. Over the last 12 years, the No. 1 team in the country has been an ACC squad 90% of the time.
How the Cards stack up nationally
UofL stands among the nation's leaders in several categories including goals per game (9th - 3.33); points per game (11th - 9.17); scoring average (11th - 3.14); scoring margin (12th - 1.57); assists per game (13th - 2.50) and winning percentage (3rd - 0.833).
Sydney King is 16th in goals against average (1.45).
Garcia Named ACC Co-Player of the Week
Elisa Garcia was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Field Hockey Co-Player of the Week along with Wake Forest's Anna Kozniuk.
The Santiago, Chile native was instrumental in both of Louisville's wins over ranked opponents. The junior midfielder scored the second goal of the game as the Cardinals withstood a late attack to defeat No. 4 Duke 2-1 on Friday. On Sunday against No. 15 Michigan, Garcia assisted the game-tying goal with five minutes remaining in regulation to send the game to overtime. Louisville went on to defeat the Wolverines 2-1 in the second extra period.
Garcia becomes the second UofL player to earn the league's weekly honor. Senior Mallory Mason was named ACC Co-Player of the Week on Sept. 23.
Home Sweet Home
The Cardinals are 6-0 at Trager stadium in 2014 - extending their home victory streak to 16 straight. In 2013, UofL posted a perfect 10-0 record at Trager Stadium, going undefeated at home for the first time in school history.
The Cards' last home loss came on Nov. 2, 2012 when they fell 2-1 in overtime to then-No. 5 Connecticut in the semifinals of the BIG EAST Championship.
Balanced attack
The Cardinals have scored 40 goals on the season with senior Alyssa Voelmle leading the way with seven goals. Senior Becca Maddock follows closely with six while fellow senior Mallory Mason and sophomore Shannon Sloss each has five. Overall, 11 players have scored for UofL with nine of those players recording multiple goals.
Bonus field hockey
The Cardinals have gone in to overtime four times this season - including two games that ended in a second OT period. UofL owns a 3-1 in those games with its only loss coming in double OT against then-No. 9 (currently No. 3) Virginia. Below is a breakdown Louisville's overtime results in 2014:
Sowry reaches century mark
On Sept. 14, the Cardinals defeated William & Mary 4-3 in overtime to give head coach Justine Sowry her 100th career win (in her ninth season). She has led Louisville to a 47-24 record while in her fourth season at the helm.
You've got to play the best
The Cardinals are in the midst of their toughest schedule in program history. This season, they are 5-1 against ranked opponents this season with wins over (then) No. 1 North Carolina, No. 4 Duke, No. 14 Northwestern, No. 15 Michigan, No. 16 Wake Forest. Their only loss was against (then) No. 9 Virginia in double OT.
Still on the horizon are: No. 12 Boston College, No. 13 Syracuse and No. 20 Michigan State.
Voelmle leaving her mark in the record book
Three-time all-conference selection senior Alyssa Voelmle currently has 63 career points and stands in 10th place on UofL's career list. She needs one more point to tie Lisa Wasser (2003-06) who stands in ninth place with 64 points
. Voelmle also has 26 career goals to place her tied for seventh with Casey Diener (2004-07) and Mary Wessel (1981-84). She needs six more to tie Olivia Netzler (2001-03) for fifth place.
Jessica Javelet (2003-06) holds the all-time record for goals (69) and points (176).
Monsen and Garcia move up in career assists
Senior Paige Monsen led the Cards assists in 2013 and is currently seventh on Louisville's all-time list with 22. She needs five more to match Lisa Wasser's (2003-06) sixth-place total of 28
Junior Elisa Garcia is close behind with 21 career assists placing her tied for eighth on UofL's list for career assists.
Nicole Youman (2007-10) owns the record with 52.
