LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville women's lacrosse team bolstered its attack and added to the athleticism of its 2014 class when New Jersey native Julia Wood gave her commitment to join the Cardinals.
A two-time all-conference and all-area honoree, Wood has been a four-year starter for North Hunterdon High's varsity lacrosse team under coach Stacey Ditze. Wood was named to the Skyland Conference first team in 2012 and 2013 and made the Express Times all-area first team each of those years. The Annandale, N.J., resident was tabbed to the Courier News all-area second team in 2013.
"Julia is a finisher," head coach Kellie Young said. "Strong and powerful, she instinctively finds a way to put the ball in the back of the net. She is a great teammate and will work incessantly to create opportunities for her team to score over and over again."
Wood was a critical component to the team's consecutive Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex championships in 2012 and 2013. Away from her high school team, she played club lacrosse for T3 Elite.
"I love how intense they are and expect a lot from you, but will also always support you," Wood said of the coaching staff.
She also starred on the soccer pitch, playing on the varsity team for three seasons.
One of three children, she is the daughter of John and Cathy Wood. Her family has a history of excelling in athletics, as her uncle played basketball at Villanova, and her cousin played football at Temple and enjoying a stint with the New York Giants.
