Hi Volleyball Fans!
It's Emily Juhl.
Preseason has officially ended!
Today was an exciting day because the team was able to showcase all of the hard work we have been putting in over the past two weeks. We began the morning four hours later than usual, beginning with film review at 11 a.m.! It sure was nice to get to sleep in! From here we headed to Cardinal Arena for the first time this season to practice for a short hour before heading to pregame meal at...... yep, you guessed it, U-Club.
Game time was set for 6:00pm, but before play could begin, Nancy Worley snapped a quick pic of the team in one of our sick new uniforms for the season. As we lined up by class on the side line to introduce ourselves to all of the alumni and fans I wanted to run to the beginning of the line - in disbelief that I was indeed now a SENIOR.
I looked up into the stands and saw many of the previous players that I idolized as role models when I was a young fan not too long ago. It has truly been an experience of a lifetime and I am so glad to have been able to share the wonderful memories with such amazing teammates, coaches, administrators, and fans!
As we began the first set of the match, both excitement and nervousness were displayed. This seems expected for such a young team, however, as the match continued, the "scrappy, athletic, and competitive" team that Coach Kordes describes us as on countless occasions began to shine through. We had a blast beating up on each other and everyone contributed in a major way.
Katie and Hannah were running the show, Randi was a blocking machine with both Brookes and Sydney tearing it up in the middle, Janelle, Maya, Javoni and Carly hitting bombs from the pins, and Welch, Haley, Courtney, and Jaden flying all over the back court.
Of course I cannot forget to mention the other two studs we had on the floor, Jason and Alex. (If only we could put a jersey on them for the season!)
After competition was over, the team got to spend some time with the Alumnae and take a picture with the whole group. We are so fortunate to have such supportive alumni that have set an amazing foundation for the volleyball program at the University of Louisville. Thank you to all of the alumni for everything you have done and continue to do for our program!
Can't wait to see everyone in September for our Rice and Virginia Tech matches!
Go Cards!
