LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Current and incoming members of the University of Louisville women's lacrosse team are capitalizing on the opportunity to compete against the best in the sport at this year's FIL Women's Lacrosse World Cup in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada.
Louisville has three participants competing for Canada - assistant coach Crysti Foote, rising sophomore Kaylin Morissette, and former letterwinner Janaye Dzikewich - while incoming freshman Stephanie McNamara is playing for Australia.
Behind stellar performances from the Louisville trio, Canada (4-1) is second in the Pool A standings, only behind the U.S. (5-0) and boasts the No. 2 seed in the championship bracket. Australia is currently third in the pool, owning a 3-2 record.
Canada, which also posted victories over England, Wales, and Israel, faces Australia in a rematch in the semifinals on Friday, with the winner advancing to the gold medal game on Saturday, July 19.
Foote, who currently serves as the Cardinals' offensive coordinator, delivered Canada the game-winning goal in a 12-11 decision over Australia. The game was tied with only 10 seconds remaining in regulation, before Foote recorded her lone score of the game to seal the Canada's first win in the event. Morissette, despite coming off the bench, scored three goals in the victory.
Through five games, Foote has eight goals, while Morissette has totaled six.
