LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville women's lacrosse team had four student-athletes receive league postseason honors, BIG EAST Conference officials announced late Wednesday evening.
Louisville's four honorees match a program best that was set in 2011.
Junior Nikki Boltja was named to the all-BIG EAST first team, becoming the third Cardinal in program history to achieve the feat, while redshirt senior Katie Oliverio, junior Monica Negron, and freshman Kaylin Morissette earned second-team accolades.
"Placing four student-athletes on the two all-BIG EAST teams is a proud moment for the program," head coach Kellie Young said. "This conference has been a powerhouse in Division I lacrosse for so many years, but this year was special, playing top opponents game after game. I am so proud of these student-athletes and so proud of the team for elevating our game and setting the stage for what's to come."
Boltja, who received her first career league honor last year, finished the regular season with 63 goals and 11 assists for 74 points. The Medina, Ohio, native ranks No. 1 in the BIG EAST in goals per game (3.71) and free-position goals per game (1.0), tied for first in game-winning goals (4), and No. 2 in points per game (4.35), while nationally she is second in total goals, third in goals per game, and 15th in points and points per game. Currently, her point and goal totals rank third best in a season in school history.
Oliverio will cap her career as a two-time all-BIG EAST honoree after earning second-team status in 2011. She totaled 62 points (23 goals, 39 assists) and ranks second in the BIG EAST in assists per game (2.29) and fourth in points per game (3.65). Nationally, the Silver Spring, Md., native is 12th in assists and 15th in assists per game. Oliverio, who had 12 multi-assist games, owns the career assists record and moved into second all-time on the school's career points chart.
Negron, who is receiving her first career league accolade, has compiled another solid season on defense. Serving as a co-team captain with Oliverio and Janaye Dzikewich, Negron has amassed 65 draw controls, 31 ground balls, and 23 caused turnovers in 16 contests. She ranks first in the BIG EAST and 20th nationally in draw controls per game (4.06) and 39th in the country in caused turnovers per game (1.4). Her draw control total is the fourth most in a single season in school history.
Morissette becomes the first freshman in program history to earn all-BIG EAST honors. She has won a team-best 66 draw controls, a number that is third most in a season in school history, and ranks second on the team in total goals (43), caused turnovers (21), and third in points (45). The Bowmanville, Ontario, native ranks second in the BIG EAST and 22nd nationally in draw controls per game (3.88) and fifth in the conference in goals per game (2.53). She scored a hat trick on 10 occasions this season.
Louisville wrapped up the regular season winning its last three games to push its record to 11-6 overall, 3-5 in league play.
