WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Battling back from a 10-stroke deficit, the University of Louisville men's golf team tied for the tournament championship at the Purdue Invitational on Sunday in West Lafayette, Ind.
It's the first tournament win for the Cardinals since winning the Cardinal Intercollegiate in September.
The Cardinals were in fourth place after two rounds on Saturday, but fought back with a 291 to finish in a tie with Iowa at 878.
Robin Sciot-Siegrist captured his first collegiate win by tying Iowa's Steve Ihm for medalist honors. Sciot-Siegrist shot a 5-under par 211 to pace the Cardinals to a victory.
"It's a great win for both the team and Robin," Louisville head coach Mark Crabtree said after the tournament. "I'm proud of the comeback today. The guys played tough on a difficult course with wet conditions. It was great for Robin to earn his first collegiate victory."
Antoine LeSaux earned a top 10 finish by ending the day in a tie for ninth place. He fired 71-73-74=118, while Max Walz tied for 27th overall shot 77-72-75=224. Charlie Macneal tied for 49th by carding 81-76-73=230 and Gus Lundquist tied for 56th after shooting 76-80-75=231.
The Cardinals will compete for their third BIG EAST title in Orlando, Fla., on April 28-30.
