LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Following a week off from competition, the 18th-ranked Louisville rowing team will travel to Oak Ridge, Tenn., to take on Tennessee on Saturday morning at Melton Hill Lake.
The Cardinals and Lady Vols will open the schedule with a novice eight race at 10 a.m., ET and that will be followed by a second varsity eight race at 10:15 a.m. The racing will continue with a second varsity four race at 10:30 a.m., varsity eight at 10:45 a.m., varsity four at 11 a.m., and third varsity four/novice four racing at 11:15 a.m.
"Racing against Tennessee is always a challenge because they're a Top 20 level program that consistently advances to the NCAA Championship," said Louisville rowing head coach Derek Copeland. "They are patient and always well prepared to race and I expect our crews to be on their toes all day because we will have a fight on our hands in every boat. We've had a couple of freak injuries come up that will impact each of our boats, but I feel confident that the team will take full advantage of the lineup changes. I also believe that variety often helps the team progress."
The Cardinals, who debuted at No. 18 in the first CRCA/USRowing coaches' poll released on March 20, opened the spring on March 16-17 at the Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational where they earned four wins and competed well against No. 1 Virginia and No. 14 Notre Dame.
Following this weekend's race against the Lady Vols, the Cardinals will have a week away from competition before traveling to Iowa City, Iowa, for races against Wisconsin and Minnesota on April 13.
