LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Following a stellar collegiate debut, University of Louisville women's lacrosse's Kaylin Morissette earned WomensLax.com Rookie of the Week honors, the Illinois-based organization announced Monday.
A true freshman, Morissette led the team in its 13-3 victory over Canisius with four goals on seven shots and helped deliver head coach Kellie Young her 100th career victory. Morissette also tallied two ground balls and was credited with a game-high four caused turnovers.
Notably, Morissette, who was one of four freshmen to earn a spot in the starting lineup, tied Bergan Foley and Sierra Smith-Hart for the most goals in a Louisville debut. Three of Morissette's goals came before the halftime break.
The Bowmanville, Ontario, native came to Louisville with impressive credentials, as she held the title of co-captain for the U-19 Canadian National Lacrosse Team and helped lead the squad to a bronze medal at the U-19 World Cup in Hannover, Germany. Morissette also was named to the All-World Team and earned MVP honors of the bronze medal game.
Louisville continues its three-game home stand on Saturday, Feb. 16, against No. 13 Ohio State. First draw is scheduled for 2 p.m. in the UofL Lacrosse Stadium.
