LOUISVILLE, Ky. - While some athletes focus on just one sport during their prep careers, Casey Webbert was busy excelling in three - all at the varsity level.
One of four signees in the University of Louisville women's lacrosse's recruiting class from Maryland, Webbert has continued to shine in lacrosse, basketball, and soccer at Gerstell Academy under coaches Alex Snyder, Amelia Lake, and Kristen McAfee.
"Casey is a firecracker," head coach Kellie Young said. "She's fast, smart, and sees the play ahead of the game. She will impact our midfield and help us transition the ball from end to end."
Webbert, who served as a team captain in each sport during her junior campaign, earned the coaches' awards for basketball and twice for lacrosse. She also is a two-time Falcon Award recipient - determined by teammates for the student-athlete who exhibits the most leadership - for basketball and one time for soccer.
The Baltimore native was Carroll County's leading scorer in soccer as a freshman and totaled the most points on the lacrosse team at the end of her junior season.
"Not only were the coaches welcoming and friendly," Webbert, a member of the Check-Hers 2014 club lacrosse team, said, "the team was also very easy to talk to and I loved how everyone referred Louisville as their home, even if they are only freshmen."
One of three children, she is the daughter of Chris and Christine Webbert. Her father played soccer collegiately and is in the athletics Hall of Fame at Loyola (Blakerfield) and continued his career professionally.
