
Swimming Heads to Michigan Invite

The Cardinals will head to Ann Arbor, Michigan for the University of Michigan Open this weekend for a three-day competition against some of the top swimmers in the nation. Preliminaries will begin each day at 10 a.m. with finals starting at 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and at 3 p.m. on Sunday. The Cards will look to improve on already impressive times that are some of the best in the country.
Leading the way on the No. 11 men's team is senior Joao De Lucca, who currently sits at fourth in the 100-free in a time of 43.91, and fifth in the 200-free with a time of 1:36.58. Teammate junior Caryle Blondell is one spot ahead of De Lucca in the 100-free, posting a time of 43.85. Senior Kameron Chastain holds a time of 54.43 in the 100-breast, which puts him sixth.
For the No. 19 women, junior Tanja Kylliainen holds a top-ten national spot in three different events. She ranks first in both the 200-fly and 400-IM with times of 1:54.99 and 4:07.57, respectively. Kylliainen is also seventh in the 200-IM in a time of 1:58.31. Sophomore Kelsi Worrell's time of 52.94 puts her second in the 100-fly. There will be no team scoring, with individuals from many other programs joining the invite which is focused posting more top times and trying to get cuts for the NCAA Championships in March.
